Nina West at San Diego Comic Con “The You Kind of Kind”

Drag Icon Nina West hosted a panel at San Diego Comic-Con with a very special preview of her first children’s book, THE YOU KIND OF KIND. Nina West is one of the most famous Drag Queens in the world and is currently headlining the brand-new national tour of the Broadway Musical HAIRSPRAY from original Producer Jerry Mitchell in the lead role of Edna Turnblad. We caught up with West for a quick chat and discussed her book and her approach to kindness.

The You Kind of Kind

In this heartfelt and joyous children’s story, little Nina embarks on a boisterous day of exploration, a colorful day where she sets out to find, well, Kind. With a backpack full of her favorite things, Nina guides readers through the neighborhood to identify kindness in the wild. Along the way, she shines a light on the importance of loving yourself as well as others, revealing that sharing your unique form of kindness—the you kind of Kind—is the most wonderful gift of all.

The book goes on sale on October 25th and is available for pre-order in several places including, www.ninawest.com and Amazon.

Nina West at San Diego Comic-Con

Best known as Miss Congeniality from Season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Nina is bringing her brand of kindness to San Diego Comic-Con with a very special, first-of-its-kind panel previewing her first ever children’s book THE YOU KIND OF KIND. Nina will be one of the first ever drag queens to host a panel at SDCC about their own project. The panel took place Friday at SDCC and was moderated by Ashley Eckstein (Voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars and the Her Universe Founder). It also featured The You Kind of Kind artist, Hayden Evans, as they discussed how the book came about and the importance of LGBTQIA+ authors and representation in mainstream media.

Nina West at the Her Universe Fashion Show

During our interview, we asked Nina West about her experience at the Her Universe Fashion Show. The night before her panel, West co-hosted the Her Universe Fashion Show alongside actress and entrepreneur, Ashley Eckstein. The evening celebrated the return of the critically-acclaimed event known for highlighting inclusivity and empowerment for all. The HUFS is more intimate than any other event happening this weekend, and in my humble opinion, the most important event at San Diego Comic-Con.

Having West co-host only elevated the feeling of fun, empowerment, and inclusivity. West added a ton of heart and humor to the show. This entire past weekend, West was a ray of sunshine lighting the return back to fandom and fun at the San Diego Convention Center.
