Michelle Ruff Interview at Anime Riverside

Anime Riverside took place on May 27 and 28th and hosted a variety of voice actors, including Michelle Ruff. She has voiced a number of anime characters, such as Rukia Kuchiki in Bleach and Luna in Sailor Moon.

Interview with Michelle Ruff

Since Bleach ended in 2014, fans have hoped the final arc, The Thousand-Year Blood War, would be animated. This year, they got their wish, and Bleach has returned with new animation, new characters, and uncensored scenes. Michelle Ruff was lucky enough to be asked to return to voice the Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki, who is responsible for Ichigo Kurosaki obtaining Soul Reaper powers in the first episode.

When asked how she found out she was coming back, she said:

They made us sweat. I think I got the call in April of last year, just a few months before it was being released. To get the call was “Oh, my god. Thank god!” I’m super excited to voice her again.

Rukia is a multi-faceted character, and is the first one we see in Bleach. She’s very strong, vulnerable, and funny. Michelle Ruff believes that Rukia’s most important comes in the Soul Society Arc, where we dive into the darkness inside her.

The whole flashback where we learned what happened with Kaien. It was so sad, and put a whole new twist on who she is. For me, it was a pivotal moment in the show.

Michelle Ruff is also the voice of Luna in Sailor Moon—alongside Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis, who coincidentally voices Ichigo in Bleach—but unfortunately, she couldn’t tell us about any future projects because she doesn’t know what’s next for her in that series.

Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War is now streaming on Hulu, where you can also watch all of Sailor Moon.
