Mortal Kombat 1 Year 2 Content Announced at SDCC

NetherRealm Studio hosted a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to celebrate Mortal Kombat 1’s first birthday. Fresh off the release of returning Fighter Takeda Takahashi, the new year two content, titled Khaos Reigns, was detailed. The panel was hosted by Spawn on Me host Kahlief Adams and showcased new characters, story moments, and finishing moves. Check out our full breakdown below.

New and Returning Playable Characters, Finishing Moves

Rumored since the game’s initial launch, Khaos Reigns features the Scream franchise’s iconic Ghostface killer. Mortal Kombat veterans Sektor and Cyrax make their return. This time they’re female Lin Kuei members and notably not cyborgs. Noob Saibot (Bi-Han) makes his return, and new guest characters Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000 (voiced by original voice actor Robert Patrick) make their debut. Kaiji Tang reprises his Sub-Zero role as the voice of Noob Saibot. Announced at the panel, Erika Ishii is playing Sektor. Notably, no new Kameo fighters were announced.

Last seen in Mortal Kombat 3, Animilaties make their glorious return with Khaos Reigns. These are similar to the series’ classic Fatalities, but sees each fighter turning into various animals and maul their opponents in the most gruesome, hilarious ways.

Finally, Scorpion will be getting a new skin for all players featuring the classic look of the fan-favorite 1995 Mortal Kombat movie.

New Story Content

At the end of the Mortal Kombat 1 story, an alternate version of the chaotic mastermind Havik made a brief appearance, teasing what’s next to come. During the panel, fans got to see an exclusive story trailer, showing Havik’s motivations and how Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot come into play.

As a final tease, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon gave fans a small tease of what’s to come for the sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film with a faceless image of Kitana’s iconic bladed fans.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is coming to all platforms September 24th, 2024. No release date for the Nintendo Switch version of the game mentioned.
