Marvel Hall H 2024: Everything Revealed at SDCC!

Marvel returned to San Diego Comic Con’s famous Hall H with a look at their upcoming slate of movies! Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, provided a look at 2025’s slate of Marvel theatrical releases and a blockbuster reveals about the next two Avengers movies!

Before the panel began, though, a choir took to the stage to celebrate Deadpool & Wolverine. Dressed in red and yellow robes, they sang “Like a Prayer” as a parade of Deadpool variants entered the room. Feigie announced that Deadpool & Wolverine has officially broken the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film opening of all time.

Captain America: Brave New World

Kicking off the Marvel Hall H 2024 panel news properly was their next theatrical release: Captain America: Brave New World. The cast of the movie, including Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), Time Blake Nelson (Samuel Sterns) and Giancarlo Esposito, took to the stage.

After his character appeared in the recent trailer, it was revealed at SDCC that Giancarlo Esposito will be playing Sidewinder- the leader of the Serpent Society. Within the comics, Sidewinder is an operative for Roxxon Oil Company. Roxxon hasn’t quite made its cinematic debut yet, but has been mentioned in previous seasons of Daredevil and teased in Echo.

The cast also discussed that this Captain America movie will feel more grounded and in line with the Winter Soldier chapter of the series.

Marvel Hall H attendees were also treated to a new extended look of Brave New World. This look re-confirmed what eagle-eyed viewers caught in the first teaser trailer: That the Celestial Tiamut’s presence in Earth’s ocean will be addressed! Not only that, but Tiamut is apparently the source for Adamantium within the MCU- otherwise known as the substance that gets bonded to Wolverine’s claws and skeleton.

Harrison Ford Joins the Cast On Stage!

Also revealed in the extended look was President Ross’ wish for Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengers. Of course, Ross has his own secret and attendees were treated to a new look at Red Hulk! After the clip, Harrison Ford joined the rest of the cast on stage.

Harrison Ford, of course, has taken over the roll of Thaddeus Ross in the MCU after William Hurt passed away in 2022. Ford told the audience that he is “proud to be part of the MCU” and to take over for Hurt.

Captain America: Brave New World releases February 14, 2025.

Thunderbolts*

Next up for Marvel’s Hall H presentation was Thunderbolts*. This section was introduced by David Harbour (Red Guardian) in full costume an in character! This was also the audience’s first look at his new costume for the movie.

Harbour was soon joined on stage by the rest of the cast: Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster),  Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Julia Louise-Deryfus (Valentina), Lewis Pullman, and Geraldine Viswanathan. Director Jake Schreier also joined the cast on stage.

The cast discussed their work on the movie, with Sebastian Stan noting that his co-star Florence Pugh is the standout part of Thunderbolts*. Julia Louise-Dreyfus told Hall H that Valentina “is after power and control” in this movie. Pugh praised the work of the stunt team.

As for that asterisk in the recently-revealed Thunderbolts* logo? Audiences will have to wait until the movie comes out to find out what that’s about! However, it was noted that the Thunderbolts group is not named after Ross (whose nickname is ‘Thunderbolt’).

The audience was then treated to the very first look at footage from Thunderbolts*! Those in attendance reported that there was lots of great action and showed how the team is reluctantly put together. All of the team members are apparently assigned the same mission without being told about the others! Ghost (John-Kamen) also has a new look.

Thunderbolts* will release in theaters May 2, 2025.

The Fantastic 4

The third 2025 Marvel release: The Fantastic Four. In Hall H, director Matt Shakman initially took to the stage solo. He told the audience that the cast was all in London as filming on F4 starts this Tuesday!

Shakman discussed the inspiration for this new iteration of Marvel’s first family. His version of The Fantastic 4 will be set in an alternative, futuristic take on the 1960s. Though filming has not yet started on the movie, Marvel’s Hall H audience was treated to a look at some test footage.

According to those in the audience, the footage appeared to be a film for the Future Foundation. It showed Reed Richards as played by Pedro Pascal teaching a science class. Test footage for the team’s shuttle launch was also played… and villain Galactus was teased as well!

After the footage, Marvel revealed another surprise: The cast had indeed traveled from London to talk about their upcoming project! Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm) all arrived. And they brought yet another surprise with them: A new title.

The Fantastic 4: First Steps is the official title for the film and it will release on July 25, 2025. It was also revealed that Michael Giacchino would score the movie. In addition, a version of the team’s Fantasticar flew through the audience in Hall H!

That wasn’t the end of F4‘s news, however. Feige also revealed that the Fantastic 4 would have parts in the next two Avengers movies. But there’s even more news there…

Marvel Hall H Surprises: The Next Avengers Movies

Though the presentation was mostly focused on the 2025 theatrical slate, Kevin Feige also had news to share about the next two big team-up movies.

To start, he revealed that the Russo Brothers would be directing both Avengers 5 and Avengers 6: Secret Wars. Anthony and Joseph Russo have previously directed four other movies in the MCU. These include Captain America: The Winter SoliderCaptain America: Civil War, and the last two-part AvengersInfinity War and Endgame. The surprises didn’t end there, though.

With Marvel shifting focus away from Kang, it’s long been thought that the next Avengers would not be the previously-announced Kang Dynasty title. At SDCC, Marvel revealed their new plans:

Avengers: Doomsday.

But who would play the titular and terrifying Dr. Doom? In a very theatrical reveal, a group of performers all dressed in similar robes and Dr. Doom masks took to the stage. Parting, they revealed a figure dressed in green and with a mask. The man behind the mask, set to play Doctor Doom?

Robert Downey Jr.

The actor, famous in the MCU for his portrayal of Tony Stark is back. What sort of multiversal chaos will bring this familiar face but terrifying enemy to the Avenger’s attention? We’ll have to wait and see!

Avengers: Doomsday releases May 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars releases May 2027.

What’s Next?

Of course Marvel has more than just these three movies coming out in 2025! A host of new shows are due for release next year. Though not discussed at SDCC, audiences should expect to hear more about Marvel’s Disney+ releases at D23 in just a few weeks!

Marvel will likely have even more news to share as part of the Disney Entertainment Showcase on Friday, August 9th at the Honda Center. The animated Marvel shows will have their own showcase on Saturday August 10th at the D23 Premiere Stage.
