Twilight of the Gods brings Norse mythology to audiences in a unique way. We asked Wesley Coller about the conversations that went into ensuring those who were familiar and unfamiliar The use of 2D animation was the perfect medium for realizing this story’s full potential. Coller explains that the use of animation fits their narrative:

I think we we’ve talked a lot about the fact that a 2D animated space gives you the opportunity in a world that has such, you know, rich and just giant mythology. And [it] takes us from, you know, humans to gods to, to other worlds that it really gave us a place to tell a story in a way that visually fits within Zack’s aesthetic and what Jay [Olivia] does so well.

Then, Coller goes on to talk about how, as a team, they found that the animated series format gave them the space they needed to tell this story in a way that made sense for everyone watching. He says:

I think in your your two paths there, you know, the, the Norse, you know, experts and, and those who are not as versed in it had a very pop culture sort of experience with and sort of reference base. Personally, I think for me, the journey for this was amazing to be surrounded by people who are steeped in that knowledge and really get to to become a student of it, as well as to watch what, what Zack and Jay and the writers did with it.

The medium’s flexibility allowed the creators to seamlessly transition between the human, divine, and otherworldly realms. The stylistic choices captured the greatness and the true spectacle of the Norse myths. Furthermore, the unique storytelling paired with the captivating animation draws audiences with varied knowledge and experiences with mythology.
