Review: Prep & Landing: Snowball Protocol Gives An Important Reminder During the Holiday Season

‘Tis the season for your favorite elf duo to return after 14 years, and they have been missed! Wayne (Dave Foley) and Lanny (Derek Richardson) etched a special place in our hearts. After the success of “Prep & Landing” (2009) “Prep & Landing: Operation: Secret Santa” (2010) and “Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice” (2011) followed. And where would the duo be without the best North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator that is Magee (Sarah Chalke) keeping things together. This Emmy winning series returns with a brand new special, Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol. It streams on Disney+ Nov. 28, the day after its Thanksgiving Day premiere on Disney Channel, Nov. 27 (7:00 p.m. EST/PST).

New cast members include Manny Jacinto as Renato, Dulcé Sloan as Janice, Danny Pudi as Chef Geoff and Christopher Swindle as Santa.

Prep & Landing Snowball Protocol is in Effect

For those new Prep & Landing, they are an elite organization tasked with preparing homes worldwide for Santa’s arrival. The new special follows Christmas elves Lanny and Wayne, whose holiday mission goes awry when Wayne’s Gingerbread Man Device self-destructs. Wayne insists to Lanny that they must never speak of the event again enacting “snowball protocol” of silence. When they return back to the North Pole, Magee informs them that the ‘Big Guy’ aka Santa wants to speak to them. Leaving Wayne convinced he’s in major trouble with Santa and accidentally revealing other merry mishaps.

Thinking that Lanny broke “snowball protocol” after Santa speaks to them separately, Wayne reveals two separate incidents. In hope that Santa still doesn’t know about the latest mishap.

Overlooked No More

The new special while retaining the animation style fans enjoy shifts its focus this time around. Instead of focusing on a child, our story focuses on Wayne, Lanny and their dynamic. What the new special highlights is that often there are a lot of things we take for granted. Things that easily get overlooked. Like friendship. The greatest gifts we’re given aren’t always material things. Friendship is a gift that doesn’t cost you anything but showing up for the person you care about. That it’s okay to let others in.

The magic of Christmas isn’t in things. It’s in people. Building a community together and being in fellowship with one another. What has always made Prep & Landing so special is how relatable it is and 14 years later, the creative team behind the show hasn’t missed a beat.
