Ambrosia Sky Act Two Preview: A Blast Among The Stars

Ambrosia Sky: Act One is a game that completely took me by surprise. I expected it to be fun but did not expect to be so emotionally caught up in the narrative. For a full review of Act One, check it out here. I’ve since been following along, being as patient as I can, waiting for Act Two’s release date. My release announcement has more details for the release of Act Two, and I was very lucky to attend a hands-off preview hosted by a few of the devs over at Soft Rains.

The Story So Far

From a narrative perspective, we see Dahlia as she continues her quest through The Colony. The Colony is her “home turf” on which she has not tread in many years. She left some time ago for several reasons, one of which is to become a Scarab. And she’s back to check out the fungi that has overran this colony and the citizens therein. Not only is she completing her job as a Scarab, she’s digging through the memories of her life and the people who helped shape her.

Act One ends with cliffhanger, no spoilers, as it applies to looking for her lost love, Maeve, Act Two gives us that answer. I’m incredibly intrigued after seeing how Dahlia handles the memories and actual bodies of those she knew and loved. I’ll admit I’m more of a realist than a happy-ending gal but look forward to Dahlia having concrete answers; good, bad, or indifferent.

A Facelift On Core Mechanics

The main gameplay of Ambrosia Sky hinges around Dahlia and her sprayer. This sprayer is how Dahlia navigates the fungi-filled halls of the Colony. However, not all fungi are created equally. Some bear fruit worth preserving for sprayer upgrades. Players can expect new upgrades to Dahlia’s tool set to create novel styles of play. Act Two introduces new types of fungi to blast away. When asked about their internal process for creating new and exciting strains of fungi for players to combat, Soft Rains says the end goal was making the world feel more alive for players. They also don’t want players to not feel challenged with the end goal of shaking up play styles for act two. In fact, it’s clear that the team took player feedback to heart and sentiment around Act One to make Act Two a great ending for the game.

Another core part of gameplay are the zero-G environments and navigating them with Dahlia’s grappling hook. This mechanic allowed for exploration otherwise not navigable by players. In Act Two, Soft Rain is introducing what they call “weird gravity”. The developers awere very excited to show us how they integrated this throughout Act Two. This weird gravity becomes a boon, and potentially a bane in the form of puzzles, for players to not only navigate interior spaces, but exterior as well.

A glimpse of new gameplay, my favorite within the preview, showed Dahlia getting to go outside and traverse the hull of the ship. This presents new traversal challenges as well as stunning vistas into space I look forward to playing. Players can expect variations of puzzles that demand new ways of thinking to get through. This includes the novel types of fungi as well as new iterations of puzzles in general. One such puzzle shown requires players to route electricity through a vast network of rotating panels on a wall.

Act Two is gearing up to be a memorable ending for Dahlia’s tale. With brand new puzzles, weird gravity, and a conclusion to the emotional story of The Colony; I cannot wait to jump back in. Ambrosia Sky: Act Two launches on Steam on August 6, 2026. For those who already own Act One, Act Two will be given as a free update.
