For those waiting for the English version of Cour 3 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, you are in luck! Despite previous seasons being at least two episodes behind each release, it has taken over a month for the dub to start dropping on Hulu.
The first four episodes of Cour 3 are now available, and we expect the same next week until the season’s finale. Let’s take a look at the season premiere, including the animation and voice acting.
Gorgeous Animation
Cour 3 starts right where the previous season left off, with Squad Zero facing off against Yhwach’s Quincy army. After her three comrades end their lives, and thus breaking the seal that limits their abilities, Senjumaru releases her Bankai.
However, Uryu isn’t down for long. When Yhwach is reawakened during his fight with Ichibē Hyōsube, he engages in a fierce fight with Senjumaru. The animation team clearly did not come to play. Uryu moves swiftly, engulfed in the blue light fans have come to associate him with, fighting Hollows and Senjumaru’s beautiful Bankai.
Throughout the episode, fans get to experience Uryu’s fight with Senjumaru and Yhwach’s with Ichibē. Despite the constant shifts, both battles are featured equally and add a level of excitement that makes it hard to tear your eyes away. A standout moment is the black-and-white landscape, tinted with chilling red, when Yhwach and Ichibē face off.
Incredible Voice Acting
As expected, the voice actors give it their all. Derek Stephen Prince (Uryu) and Richard Epcar (Yhwach) are especially amazing. As beautiful and frightening as the black-and-white landscape is, we can’t dismiss Epcar’s delivery, as he says, “I will rob you of everything.” Then, Yhwach does just as he claims, destroying Ichibē in an explosion of blood.
Jeannie Tirado does a wonderful job of showing off the impressive power Senjumaru holds. Each time she speaks the incantations of her Bankai, she does so cooly, making both fans and enemies quiver with uncertainty, including Uryu Ishida.
However, when Senjumaru becomes trapped in her own Bankai, Prince is the one to shine. He delivers an iconic Uryu line, “By the honor of the Quincy, I will kill you,” and releases an arrow that kills her. Not only does this scene bring chills, it shows just how powerful and cruel Uryu has become as he helps bring Squad Zero to its knees and allows Yhwach access to the Soul King.
Note: Wait for the after-credits scene to see Ichibē being restored after Ichigo mutters his name before rushing off to save the Soul King.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is streaming on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally.
