X-Men ’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s

X-Men ’97 takes audiences on a nostalgia-filled trip to the 90s with the iconic mutant heroes facing a new threat. Producer Brad Winderbaum says the animated series isn’t a remake, but a continuation for existing fans and a fresh entry point for newcomers. He emphasizes the show’s mature themes, a hallmark of the X-Men, that resonate with viewers of all ages.

The series picks up 10 years after the original series with the team in disarray following Professor X’s loss. Familiar characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey grapple with new threats and mutant-human tensions. The show stays true to the original’s mix of action, drama, and serious themes, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers.

Returning favorites include Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jubilee, Morph, and Nightcrawler. Voice actors from the original series will reprise their roles. New additions include Bishop, a time-traveling mutant, and Sunspot, a reluctant recruit. Featuring music by the Newton Brothers X-MEN ‘97 debuted last week with the first two episodes exclusively on Disney+. With the following 8 episodes dropping weekly.
