Comic-Con International: San Diego is a nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comics and related popular art forms, primarily through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. One of the biggest parts of that culture is Cosplay! Cosplay, a play on words between Costume and Role Play, is a celebration and expression of fandom! Cosplay is a play on the words costume and roleplay! It’s when a person dresses up as a character from movies, television, or pop culture. It is similar to the idea of a Halloween costume but it’s something that happens all year long at conventions. Attendees at conventions dress in celebration of the characters they love. Many times drawing the attention of other con-goers and posing for photos.
