A new series is coming to Disney+! “Diary of a Future President” will premiere on Friday, January 17. From I Can and I Will Productions and CBS Television Studios, “Diary of a Future President” will be a 10-episode series based on the childhood of Ilana Peña (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), who is the show’s creator. Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin,” “Someone Great”) and Emily Gipson (“Someone Great”) serve as executive producers along with showrunners Robin Shorr (“The Carmichael Show”) and Brad Silberling (“Jane the Virgin”).
This is a family-friendly comedy series about Elena, a 12-year-old Cuban-American middle school student. Tessa Romero (“Blind Spot,” “Alternatino”) is the up-and-coming actress who portrays young Elena. She is navigating the ups and downs of middle school life. It is then Elena decides to begin her journey as the future president of the United States. Elena is an unashamed, strong-willed, and determined student who walks around with total confidence. The series’ narration is from the point of view of Elena’s diary just as the title suggests. It was formerly titled “Diary of a Female President.” Gina Rodriguez, one of the producers, has a guest-starring role as adult Elena. Adult Elena is, in fact, the president of the United States. Rodriguez also directed the first episode of the series.
The Cast of “Diary of a Future President”
Charlie Bushnell makes his acting debut in the series. He plays Bobby, Elena’s sweet and mischievous older brother. Selenis Leyva (“Orange Is the New Black,” “Murphy Brown,” “Maniac”) stars as Gabi, Elena and Bobby’s sharp and loving mom. Michael Weaver (“Here and Now,” “The Real O’Neals,” “Notes from the Underbelly”) plays Sam, a lawyer at Gabi’s firm who is in the beginnings of a relationship with her.
Gina Rodriguez gets excited about this project at D23 back in July of this year:
We would love to bring some joy in an awesome family comedy. We have an incredible cast, and we are really proud of our project. And we can’t wait ’til the world sees it!
What do you think?
Being a female president is a total possibility in this world! Personally, I think this will be a fun series the whole family can enjoy. What are your thoughts?
