Dora the Explorer is back in a new series, Dora, and this time, she’s joined by a fresh cast of characters and some iconic returning stars.
With all-new CG animation and imaginative, character-driven storylines, the upcoming DORA series follows everyone’s favorite bilingual explorer, Dora (Diana Zermeño), and her best monkey friend, Boots (Asher Colton Spence), as they embark on epic adventures in a fantastical rainforest.
Guided by the trusty Map (Anairis Quiñones), Dora and her friends must work together to overcome many obstacles, all while being challenged by the sneakiest fox, Swiper (Marc Weiner). Kathleen Herles, the original voice of Dora the Explorer, returns to the new series as Mami, with Mike Smith Rivera joining the cast as Papi.
Returning to the Jungle: Kathleen Herles
Kathleen Herles, the original voice of Dora, is back, but this time she’s playing a new role: Mami! She describes the experience as both exciting and an honor to “pass the baton” to a new generation of explorers.
I feel so excited and honored to be a part of this show and to kind of like pass the baton to this new generation to, you know, Diana and Asher. They’re taking on like such iconic roles and they’re doing an awesome job. And I think that’s going to come across to the viewers. And this new generation is going to love it. And the people that grew up, you know, with the original show, they’re going to feel the nostalgia. They’re going to fall in love with her all over again.
The cast all agrees that voice acting can be demanding, requiring high energy even when you’re not feeling it.
Dora‘s New Dora the Explorer and Boots: Diana Zermeño (Dora), Asher Colton Spence (Boots)
Diana Zermeño takes on the iconic role of Dora:
I couldn’t believe it, honestly, because I mean, I’ve never done anything like it. And I know that Dora, you know, it’s so important to so many people for many different reasons, One being that it’s very important to have representation, especially for I mean, for many Latino people, because, I mean, you don’t see a lot of that. But I just I was really happy that I got it. I didn’t hear back from my audition for months, but I was just really happy and I was trying to get prepared.
Asher Colton Spence brings Boots, Dora’s energetic monkey friend, to life with a high-pitched, enthusiastic voice.
DORA will premiere on Friday, April 12, exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia. Twenty episodes will be available to stream in all Paramount+ international markets outside of France and Japan on April 12. The series will also air on Nick Jr. internationally.
