Enrique Arrizon and Fernando Carsa talk “Acapulco” Season 2

The critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series Acapulco returns for its second season. We spoke with the stars of the show, Enrique Arrizon, and Fernando Carsa, about what they’re most excited for fans to see.

Interview with Enrique Arrizon and Fernando Carsa

On October 21st, the series will pick up right on the heels of season one, telling the story of twenty-something Máximo Gallardo (Enrique Arrizon), whose dream comes true when he scores the job of a lifetime as a cabana boy at the hottest resort in Acapulco, Las Colinas. Máximo’s best friend Memo (Fernando Carsa) is finally working alongside him as a pool boy. But Memo is also dealing with his own challenges. And the pair continues to be by each other’s side during it all.

There are a lot of good things to say about this series. The second season follows in the steps of the first season in giving us high-quality humor and writing, as well as great performances from the cast. The on-screen and behind-the-scenes Latinx representation is absolutely stellar. The storytelling is heartwarming and authentic. The series tackles serious subjects like love, loss, family dynamics, and even sexual orientation in a way that pays tribute to the seriousness of each subject while keeping everything light-hearted. I have often found that any project that involves Star and Executive Producer Eugenio Derbez has a way to make you laugh, smile, and bring you to tears.

It’s also refreshing to have an ensemble cast of mainly Latinx actors in roles that highlight them as individuals. With relatable stories as opposed to the traditional tropes that the Latinx community has historically been placed in. When asked what they enjoyed about the way their characters were written in season 2, they told us:

“I’m just really happy that our writers keep providing this space for plus size characters where they’re portrayed in a beautiful light, where they’re confident and self-loving.” Fernando Carsa
He wants to protect at any cost. His family and the love for his mother is so strong…So I think that’s a very important thing for growth.” Enrique Arrizon

Acapulco Season 2

Set in 1985, Máximo must contend with upheaval at the resort, and unexpected problems at home. There is also a new love interest who just might rival the girl of his dreams, Julia. Under Don Pablo’s guidance, Máximo sets his eyes on one day running the entire Las Colinas operation. Meanwhile, in the present-day, Older Máximo (Eugenio Derbez) returns to Acapulco to make peace with the recent passing of Don Pablo, where he is forced to confront some unfinished business young Máximo left behind.

Season one of “Acapulco” is now streaming and season two debuts on October 21st on Apple TV+.
