Trailer Plot Hints
The “Daredevil: Born Again” trailer reveals Fisk’s entry into politics, possibly as New York City’s mayor. A powerful businessman and crime lord, Wilson Fisk has always sought control over the city. As mayor, his potential for corruption would be immense. In the trailer, Fisk seeks to reassure Murdock that he is there to serve the community, but Murdock is not convinced. The trailer is packed with brutal action scenes reminiscent of the violence that the Netflix series “Daredevil” was known for. Familiar faces seen in the trailer include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher.
Tie-ins to the Netflix Series and Marvel Cinematic Universe
The Netflix series “Daredevil” introduced Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), blinded by radioactive substances as a child, developed superhuman senses. Trained by Stick to be a warrior, he ultimately chose law as his path to justice. By day, he’s a lawyer; by night, the vigilante Daredevil. He famously brought down crime lord Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Fisk, who, as a child, murdered his abusive father. He later formed alliances with criminal enterprises and exploited the aftermath of the Battle of New York to gain power. He sought to rebuild Hell’s Kitchen through destructive gentrification. His criminal activities led to conflict with Daredevil and his eventual arrest.
Disney’s 2009 acquisition of Marvel Entertainment initially left the MCU status of the Netflix series unclear. Marvel confirmed their canonicity in 2014. The canon shows include “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders,” and “The Punisher.”
Charlie Cox, as Daredevil, has appeared in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and “Echo.” Wilson Fisk survived Thanos’ snap and manipulated Ronin into killing the Tracksuit Mafia’s leaders. He then took control of the organization. After the Blip, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) thwarted Fisk’s attempts to maintain his grip on New York City. Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) discovered Fisk’s role in her father’s death and shot him.
Matt Murdock also survived the Snap. When he discovered that Fisk had survived and was out of prison, Murdock resumed his vigilante activities as Daredevil, donning his red suit and cowl. Years later, while observing rival gangs trying to seize Fisk’s properties, he clashed with Maya Lopez, quickly defeating her before escaping. Matt Murdock suprised audiences when he made his debut into the MCU, in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” defending Peter Parker against accusations of Mysterio’s murder and the public reveal of his Spider-Man identity. He expertly cleared Parker of all charges and also lent his legal prowess to Happy Hogan during a federal investigation into missing Stark technology.
What we don’t know yet
Murdock’s MCU presence expanded in “She-Hulk” when he sought out Luke Jacobson (Griffin Matthews) for a new yellow suit and then found himself facing off against She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) in court, defending Jacobson against Eugene Patilio’s claims. He successfully cleared Jacobson of all charges. When Patilio kidnapped Jacobson, Daredevil teamed up with She-Hulk to rescue him. During the series, he and She-Hulk are assumed to be dating, but it is unknown if that romance will carry on into the “Daredevil: Born Again” series.
Fisk tries to reconcile with Maya in the “Echo” series. But when they can’t come to terms, he goes after her and targets her family. Maya eventually forces him to confront and heal his childhood trauma. They part ways with Fisk focused on running for mayor. We do not know if Maya will return.
“Daredevil: Born Again” will reignite the conflict between Daredevil and Kingpin. While the show’s specific plot details, new characters’ roles, connections to the Netflix series, and storylines beyond their conflict remain undisclosed, anticipation runs high.
