Geeking Out – A Personal Chuck Palahniuk Fan Experience

mmPosted by

This past weekend, I got the opportunity to meet Chuck Palahniuk!!! For those not in the know, Chuck Palahniuk is the author of some amazing books. He’s written critically acclaimed classics such as Fight Club, Choke, Survivor, and Lullaby. Currently, he’s working on the third installment of Fight Club that’s being released by Dark Horse Comics.

If you’re a fan of Chuck Palahniuk’s work, you owe it to yourself to go to one of his meets and greets. It’s truly a treat.

The event was held at Golden Apple Comics on Melrose in Los Angeles. The event itself was pretty neat. The employees at the shop had all been made up to look like members of Fight Club. There were severed arms signed by Chuck Palahniuk and the cover artist of the series, David Mack.

Both Chuck Palahniuk and David Mack were on hand to discuss their art and just simply hang out with the fans. Everyone in attendance was given a line number and were told that they could take all the time needed to hang out with the creators. It was truly an awesome event.

This wasn’t my first meet and greet with Chuck Palahniuk. The first time I met him I was in college and he was doing a signing at a bookstore. He complimented my hair, an afro at the time and made me wear a tiara to ask him a question. He had made everyone wear a tiara at that event. This current event, everyone had to ear “my name is” name tags and when the time came to take a picture, Chuck Palahniuk simply gave an option between “choke hold or fighting?” I chose to fight and got the most epic pose ever with my favorite author.

My favorite part of the event was when it was my turn to speak with Chuck Palahniuk, I recounted the previous time we met, he actually remembered me and he gave me some great advice in order to improve my writing. It was truly an experience I will never forget. No matter who your favorite writer is, it is absolutely priceless to have them give you personal advice in your field. These moments I’ll always treasure.
