Huge Star Wars Video Game Shake-ups Announced

mmPosted by

Over the last several years there have been many Star Wars video game rumors,  speculations, delays, and cancellations. At this point, fans don’t trust any game announcements. This week we had some huge Star Wars Video game announcements that are sure to shake things up.

Over the last couple of months, the gaming industry announced many layoffs. Currently, there are more than 8,000 workers set to lose their jobs.

Star Wars Video Game Announcements:

Knights of the Old Republic remake

According to Bloomberg, the embattled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake may have a chance of survival. In a 500 million dollar deal, the KOTOR games developer, Saber Interactive, has reportedly left the parent company Embracer to become a privately owned company. According to Bloomberg, the remake is still in the works, but whether it will ever reach the public is unknown.

A report from IGN brings news from the shakeup at EA (Electronic Arts). They are canceling their Star Wars FPS action game that was rumored to be focused around a Mandalorian character. The game was to be developed by the EA owned Respawn Entertainment.

The Star Wars: Jedi will get it’s 3rd installment

Another announcement from EA brings good news. A 3rd installment of the Star Wars: Jedi series will be made. After the success of Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, they are confident in established IP. Instead of taking risks on new stories, the industry is playing it safe with existing IPs.

Art for Jedi: Fallen Order featuring Cal Kestis (a human male with red hair, holding a blue lightsaber), the Second Sister (a human female wearing a black helmet with a red visor as well as black clothing and armor- she holds a double-bladed red lightsaber), Cere Junda (a human female with short, curly dark hair wearing a green vest and tan shirt, holding a Jedi Holocron), Greez Dritus (a male Latero with green skin, grey whiskers, and four arms- he is wearing a red jumpsuit and holding a blaster), BD-1 (a small droid with a large rectangular head and small body with two legs- he often rides on Cal’s back), as well as various ships and Purge Troopers (humanoids in similar armor to Storm Troopers but in all black and with red visors)

Massive Layoffs Across the Gaming Industry

As for EA’s Star Wars strategy game, its fate remains unclear. Many game game projects are being reassigned and reorganized within the company. All the layoffs and reorganization come as a shock to most after companies reported large earnings in the final quarter of last year. It may take quite a while for the industry to recover. Even with these announcements, there’s no guarantee that all of this could change in the future.
