Interview with Dascha Polanco – Prime Video’s “Samaritan”

Monica speaks with actress Dascha Polanco about her role as Tiffany in Samaritan. We discussed what Polanco liked about her character as well as what it’s like stepping into the superhero genre alongside Sylvester Stallone.

Interview with Dascha Polanco

Dascha Polanco spoke with Monica about her role as Tiffany in Samaritan. Her character is the mother of thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) who suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually the superhero known as Samaritan. Tiffany is a single mom who loves her son very much, and does her best to be there for him but has to work hard to keep a roof over their heads. Which means her son is often alone. Leaving him vulnerable to some of the neighborhood crime bosses.

Polanco told us about how she had moments where she needed to pinch herself. When asked what it was like stepping into the superhero genre, she told us “I always wanted to do it. So it’s definitely validating. It’s inspiring, it’s fun, and it’s an honor. I mean being part of this film and playing across Sylvestor Stallon, was definitely something where I had my moments where I had to {pinches self}. And make sure I was not dreaming.” She also goes on to explain to us what she liked most about playing Tiffany, “You start to believe and say wait a minute, there seems to be a little bit of heroism in all these characters.”

Samaritan

Samaritan will launch globally on Prime Video on August 26th. The story centers around thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) who suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

The film is directed by Julius Avery and Written by Bragi F. Schut. It also stars Sylvester Stallone, Javon “Wanna” Walton, Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco, and Moises Arias.
