If you’d told me a month ago that Francesca Bridgerton would become one of my favorite characters in season three, I would have said, “Who are you kidding? Have you even been paying attention?” Francesca has been noticeably absent when it comes to Bridgerton family gatherings. (The first four episodes of season three premiered on May 16th, 2024.) And now there is the possibility that she will be this season’s Diamond.
(Spoilers for Part One, Season Three of Bridgerton)
Francesca Bridgerton’s more significantrole in Season 3 of Bridgerton
Played by Ruby Stokes in seasons one and two, the role of Francesca, the sixth Bridgerton child and third daughter, was recast for season three with actress Hannah Dodd. Previously relegated to the background, Francesca takes center stage in season three. Honestly, I wasn’t initially interested because I knew nothing about her. However, this season she consistently stood out. It’s clear that while she possesses all the qualities of a “diamond” in Regency society, she truly embodies the term.

One could argue she’s a Daphne 2.0. The similarities are undeniable. The casting is perfect; they even resemble each other. Despite her kindness, noble background, and talent, she feels like an outsider. This explains why she hangs back, a wallflower with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
What resonated most with me was her response to what she seeks in a man. She simply wants someone kind. The laughter that followed felt like a personal experience – the constant overstimulation of friends’ parties where every three men bombard you with questions about your desires. I, too, have expressed a desire for just a kind man, only to be met with looks suggesting I’m being basic. In truth, kindness seems like a rare commodity, especially in Regency England.
All I know is that Francesca Bridgerton, a character I previously knew nothing about, has me wanting to learn everything.
