Temple Of Geek Chic: Kawaiian Pizza Apparel

For the second week in a row on Temple of Geek Chic we take a look at Kawaiian Pizza Apparel. On Temple Of Geek chic we take a look at and explore different geek styles and geek fashion. Kawaiian Pizza Apparel is a screen printing and design business as well as a clothing line run by a husband and wife out of Northern California. Last week we looked at the matching cosplay designs created by owner Alec Dale. Alec managed to merge her love of Disney and graphic design and started up her own small business. This week we looked at some of the other types of items and outfit choices this brand offers.  We put them to the geek test and had Temple Of Geek writers, Emily and Nate, test out a few of their casual cosplay pieces and bounding pieces.

What we love about it:

In our previous post we covered some of the matching couples outfits that Kawaiian Pizza Apparel carries. What we found then is absolutely what we are looking at now. We love the absolute quality of the design. It is so well thought out and there is so much attention to detail. The design on dresses wraps around to the back as do some of the shirts. There is so much work that goes into giving these items texture. Everything lies on the body exactly where it would if this was an actual cosplay.

I think what we really loved the most is just how many different designs they have to offer. Their categories are extensive and they are fun. They come in sizes for adults and kids. You have so many options for couple and family dress up!

This time around we looked at some of their leggings and their tops.

Star Wars Han Solo Inspired Leggings and the Epcot Spaceship Earth Inspired Capri Leggings

We tasked one of our Temple Of Geek writers, Emily, with styling these leggings for everyday wear. The Han Solo leggings would definitely make a good cosplay. But we wanted to see how she could incorporate these into her daily life. I was definitely ready for a day at the Disney Park in the Epcot Earth Capri Leggings.

Men’s Tron Inspired Long Sleeve Shirt

The Tron inspired shirt is definitely more of a cosplay or bounding type shirt. Our resident cosplayer, Doc In The Box, paired this top with both black pants and Tron Discs to put together a more cosplay inspired look, as well as with regular blue jeans. The thing that impressed us the most about the shirt is how the colors on the shirt almost seem to light up.

How does it feel?

The thickness of the shirts can make it feel a little warm on a hot day. The materials used are soft and comfortable and easy to move in. The fabrics are soft and stretchy.

What is the print like?

The print is pretty great. This company strives to be as film-accurate as possible and they print using a sublimation printer, where the design is dyed into the fabric.

Does it look good on different body types?

We love that these styles come in such a range of sizes. They come in sizes XS-5XL. The fabric give a lot of stretch but we recommend ordering bigger than your usual size. The spandex tends to cling to body, so unless you plan on wearing shape-wear underneath, I recommend wearing one or two sizes bigger than you usually wear. Ordering too small, despite the garment’s ability to stretch, may not be as flattering. In the Men’s shirts they did seem to run true to size. The biggest difference we saw is in the length of the shirt. On the men’s athletic shirts, as with the skater dresses, the fabric will to cling to the body if too tight. So keep that in mind when ordering, as well as looking at the length of the shirt. Athletic men’s cut shirts tend to be shorter than regular men’s cut shirts. If you are taller, I recommend ordering a size larger than you usually wear.

Can you dress it up?

These are great for casual wear, cosplay and as costumes. I personally think these would make excellent Halloween Costumes. Especially because unlike a Halloween costume, you can actually wear these items more than once a year.

Overall:

We love the comfort, the designs and the fact that this brand offers so many options in designs, sizes (5X for the win!), and that they offer their clothes for the entire family. Their wide range of selections include dresses, shirts, leggings, swimwear and even accessories. This brand is well thought out and worth going through their massive online collection.

They’re lightweight and comfortable—good for working out or (cos)playing out. – Emily
