What can be better than a weekend trip to Las Vegas? Going to Vegas for a toy convention! The ToyCon Las Vegas was held over the weekend of March 1-3 at the Westgate Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. There was a little something for everyone at this event, from classic action figures, die-cast cars, stars of screen and wrestling, cosplayers of all levels, and a massive event floor with artists and vendors galore. This is the 11th annual ToyCon held in the Vegas area and with new ownership and venue; the event was both entertaining and exciting.

There were plenty of celebrities available for photographs and signing opportunities. ToyCon advertised the reunion of Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox of CHiPs fame as well as members of the Broken Lizard troupe, famous for their Super Troopers movies. Plenty of fans of the Power Rangers series were happy with the celebrity guests in attendance as well with both Bulk and Skull available for signings. Aside from stars of TV and movies, there were many WWE superstars at ToyCon and the wrestling fans came out in droves to see the likes of Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Asuka, and Becky Lynch. Premier artists such as James C Mulligan from Disney Fine Arts and comic book creator Jamie Sullivan attended and wowed fans with their designs. Fans of Garbage Pail Kids had their own area to meet with creators and artists as well.

The main events of the convention included the Diecast Convention, which was bolstered by the fact that NASCAR was in town for the weekend as well. From classic toy cars of yesteryear to today’s hottest designs, die-cast car enthusiasts had plenty to choose from with hundreds of vendors displaying thousands of toy cars. There was also a Custom Toy Contest with categories such as vinyl/figures, plastic models, custom die-cast cars, and dioramas all vying for top prize over the weekend. The Gross Card Con was an event all of its own, with artists and creators of Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages offering art, original prints, and custom art for fans. Lastly, there were cosplayers galore from full builds requiring stilts, LEDs, and custom printing to body paint artists showing their artistic talents. Many fans of cosplay came out to attend the fashion show on Friday and the cosplay competition on Sunday and there were so many amazing and talented cosplayers in attendance.

ToyCon Las Vegas was an amazing weekend of fun all set to music with the in house DJ playing music throughout the hall. This was a great event and one I, personally, will look forward to again next year!
