“Lucifer” star Tom Ellis and executive producers discuss seasons five and six

mmPosted by

Tom Ellis, Lucifer himself, and executive producers, Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich, talked with panel moderator Luke Cook (Lucifer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) during the Netflix Geeked panel for Comic-Con @Home. They answered questions about season five and gave us the inside scoop on what is to be expected from the sixth and final season of Lucifer.

Lucifer follows the fallen angel himself who no longer wants to be the king of Hell. Because of this, he builds a life of his own in Los Angeles. The show aired on Fox for the first three seasons. Then, it was picked up by Netflix for seasons five and six. There are season five spoilers in the panel and this article.

Questions about Lucifer season 5

Season five of Lucifer aired on Netflix in May of 2020. More than one year later, Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich are so happy with the way season five turned out. There is a beautifully done musical episode and a lot of emotion throughout the season. With that came the tragic loss of Detective Dan Espinoza (played by Kevin Alejandro). Luke Cook asked the question all of us fans wanted to know the answer to – How could they kill him off?

Ildy let us know that it was Tom and Kevin’s idea. Tom said, “When we were initially doing season five, we all believed that it was the final season of Lucifer.” Joe added, “Kevin Alejandro actually pitched [to] us him dying.” Dan’s death was such an intense moment in season five, and it makes far more sense that they killed him off believing this was the end.

The musical episode, “Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam” is easily a fan favorite. Musical episodes of television shows are always hit or miss, and this one was a total hit. Each song was strategically chosen for the story. The writers and producers created the story and then broke it down to find the perfect songs. So much so, Ildy mentions, “Like when Dan was going to feel like he was going to go to Hell, and so I literally googled songs ‘going to hell.'”

Another fun surprise for the musical episode is that we learn Tom Ellis is not a musical theater person! Music has always been part of his life, as he says during the panel, and this episode shone a light on how important music is to him.

Season 6 of Lucifer is coming this year!

Netflix has announced that season six will be available on September 10th of this year! There is a teaser trailer for the new season in the panel video. Joe and Ildy do not want to give anything away since this will be the final season.

Luke asked a few questions pertaining to season six, and these are the answers we have:

Is Lucifer going to solve crimes in season six? Tom says, “It’s in his DNA now” to do so!

If Chloe (played by Lauren German) takes off Lilith’s ring, will she die? No, it was simply meant to bring her back to life! Now, it just looks great on her hand.

Will Amenadiel (played by D.B. Woodside) become a police detective? Not a detective, but he will join the LAPD.

Ella, Corbin…is there a love interest there? This is something that will be explored in honor of the legacy of Dan.

Is Ella going to learn the truth about Lucifer? Well, she is the only one who does not know the truth. We did not get a direct answer to this. So, we will see!

You can stream Lucifer seasons one through five on Netflix. Also, fans can now change their Netflix profile picture to characters from the show! Follow @NetflixGeeked for more updates on Twitter.
