New “Doctor Who” and “Rivers of London” Comic Book Releases

New comic book releases from Titan Comics bring you a new Doctor Who installment and a fresh, interesting Rivers of London story. If you like time-traveling, magic, and witty writing these are the titles for you.

New “Doctor Who” Comic Book Release

Doctor Who, Origins, Cover Art

Doctor Who is a rich well of content. If one dedicated their lives to catching up on the spin-offs, audio adventures, comic books, and the show itself it simply couldn’t be done. That said a new installment of The Doctor’s adventures is hitting the comic shelves soon and it is fantastic!

In Doctor Who Origins we are introduced to the Fugitive Doctor, one of the regenerations that were wiped from our current Doctor’s memories. Published by Titan comics the first issue of this installment features writer Jody Houser and artist Roberta Ingranata.

The Fugitive Doctor goes on a mission with a new companion and lands on a planet full of people (aliens) that need Gallifrey’s help, yet Gallifrey has seemingly sent The Doctor there to destroy them.

What I love about this rendition of the Doctor is that it’s an amalgamation of all the versions that I love. Smart, witty, and empathetic. I am super excited for the next issue of this series. The best part about a new arc for The Doctor is that new fans can jump right in and learn to love The Doctor, with no prior context or knowledge. This arc is available in comic shops and digitally now. I am highly anticipating the next issue of this wonderful new story.

New “Rivers of London” Comic Book Release

River of London, Deadly Ever After, Cover art

Rivers of London created by Ben Aaronovitch is releasing a new installment in his Deadly Ever After series, written by Celeste Bronfman. This story follows Chelsea and Olympia as they try to control the deadly fairy tales that have been unleashed on their world.

Now as someone who was simply intrigued by the cover art and has never read a Rivers of London book or comic, this series has a new fan. With delightful artwork, charming writing, and an interesting, captivating story, Deadly Ever After is the perfect starting place for anyone wanting to dive into comics for the first time, or for those who simply want something other than superheroes and villains.

In a magic-based world where foxes can talk, the use of fairy tales gives audiences a sense of familiarity. This allows readers to connect more quickly with the story and with the characters experiencing it. I genuinely recommend this one specifically for new comic book readers or those looking for a new story to enjoy. Though I don’t know much about the rest of the Rivers of London series I really think that Deadly Ever After is a good place to start.

These new comic book releases are both worth picking up, both titles being the beginnings of brand new story arcs. Titan is welcoming you into their stories and I highly recommend picking up both of these lovely titles.
