Dragon Quest Celebrates 40th Anniversary With New Games, Update on Dragon Quest 12

For Dragon Quest fans, May 27 isn’t just another day. It’s Dragon Quest Day, commemorating the original release of the first game in Japan in 1986. With it being 2026, this means Dragon Quest has spanned an impressive forty years! And with a massive milestone comes some big announcements.

Initially, fans had been waiting for Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. However, due to team restructuring and a few other speed bumps, the game’s development was restarted. This restart includes a brand new title – Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams. Additionally, the logo has gotten a refresh as well. Fans wanting a sneak peak from none other than Yuji Horii, game designer, and Yosuke Saito, executive producer, can check out the full suite of announcements below.

With A Frizz, Crackle, Zap

And if one new adventure on the horizon isn’t enough, there is more coming. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. This installment in the Monsters series follows Bianca and Nera, dual protagonists from Dragon Quest V: Hand of Heavenly Bride. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is making its way to Switch 2 on September 24. Players will receive all the same features as those who have played on different consoles, but with an added feature. Choose between two display modes, a choice of prioritizing graphics or performance. Preorders have opened on May 27 with more information available at this link and a brand-new trailer fans can watch here.
