It was an exciting day in geek culture as new trailers and photos for Warner Bros’ films Wonka and Blue Beetle, as well as for Star Wars: Ahsoka.
Star Wars: Ahsoka is a new Star Wars series that follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.
The series is set after the fall of the Empire and stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.
The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist is the co-executive producer. Ahsoka will launch exclusively on Disney+ on August 23.
Blue Beetle is a new film from Warner Bros. Pictures that tells the story of Jaime Reyes, a recent college grad who unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers. Jaime Reyes becomes the superhero Blue Beetle, and he must use his new powers to protect his city from danger.
The film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Adriana Barraza as his grandmother, Damían Alcázar as his father, Raoul Max Trujillo as Carapax, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, George Lopez as his Uncle Rudy, Elpidia Carrillo as his mother, Bruna Marquezine as Jenny Kord, Belissa Escobedo as his sister, Milagro, and Harvey Guillén as Dr. Sanchez.
The film is directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. It is produced by John Rickard and Zev Foreman, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman, and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers.
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters in North America on August 18, 2023.
Wonka is a new film that tells the story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician, and chocolate-maker, Willy Wonka, became the beloved character we know today. The film is directed by Paul King, who also directed the Paddington films, and stars Timothée Chalamet as a young Willy Wonka.
The film also stars Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher, Rakhee Thakrar, Tom Davis, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
The screenplay was written by Simon Farnaby and Paul King, based on a story by King and characters created by Roald Dahl. The film is set to be released in theaters in December 2023.
