Critical Role’s newest animated series, “The Mighty Nein,” is just around the corner. Based on Critical Role’s second campaign, the animated series follows a new ragtag group of misfits. War is brewing, and political minefields are in every direction. The Mighty Nein will have to navigate through danger in the hopes of surviving.
“The Legend of Vox Machina” is a more comedic and traditional high fantasy adventure. However, “The Mighty Nein” introduces countless new characters, a new continent, a new era in Exandria’s history, and a new tone. With so much new information, Temple of Geek wanted to offer a bit of a rundown for each of the members of this crew and the world they are in. “Nine Days Until The Mighty Nein” does just that.
Meet Fjord Stone Of The Mighty Nein
In our first episode we introduce Fjord Stone, played by Travis Willingham. Willingham voices Grog Strongjaw in “The Legend of Vox Machina.” He is also one of the founders and main cast members of Critical Role. Willingham is also the CEO of the company. Fjord Stone is a half-orc warlock.
Fjord grew up in an orphanage in Port Damali on the Menagerie Coast. He was often the target of bullying, both from the other kids and the man that ran the orphanage. He was often picked on because he looked different from the other kids, causing many insecurities about his looks that have lasted into adulthood. However, when he grew older, Fjord believed he had found his place after volunteering to join a ship’s crew.
Even though one of his main tormentors was also a part of the crew, he moved up the ranks over the years. He bonded with his captain, Vandran, who became a mentor to the young sailor. However, tragedy struck, and Fjor was once again left alone. In the wake of this tragedy, Fjord did discover he possessed magic, much to his terror and later delight. Hoping to find answers, he decides a magic school might be his best bet. While traveling he meets Jester and a slew of other outcasts, but that will be explored in the series.
“The Mighty Nein” premieres on Prime Video November 19. Check back tomorrow for another episode of “Nine Days Until The Mighty Nein.”
