Disney+ has announced the official cast of their original series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” The series will also begin production in April. Starring Ewan McGregor as the Jedi we all know and love, the story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Cast announcements for “Obi-Wan Kenobi”
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is directed by Deborah Chow, director of two critically acclaimed episodes of “The Mandalorian,” Season 1. The series is executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy (President of Lucasfilm), Michelle Rejwan (Senior Vice-President of Live Action Development and Production for Lucasfilm), Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and writer Joby Harold (writer for “Edge of Tomorrow (2014)”). The casting director is Carmen Cuba (casting director for “Stranger Things”).
This list of incredible producers, writers, and directors is mostly women. We love to see women working on the expanded Star Wars universe!
Hayden Christiansen, who played Anakin Skywalker in Episodes II and III, makes his return as Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton (“Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”) and Bonnie Piesse (“Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”) will be reprising their roles as Owen Lars and Beru Lars, respectively. It will be great to see familiar faces. With the return of Owen and Beru Lars, will we see a very young Luke running about in this series?
Also, joining the cast are Moses Ingram (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Men In Black: International”), Indira Varma (“Game of Thrones”), Rupert Friend (“Homeland”), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters”), Sung Kang (“Fast & Furious 6”), Simone Kessell (“Outlaws”) and Benny Safdie (“Good Time”).
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” does not have a release date. The series will be streaming exclusively on Disney+.
