Peacock Renews “The ’Burbs” for Season 2 Following Record-Breaking Debut

The cul-de-sac is officially staying busy. Peacock has announced that its hit comedy series “The ’Burbs” has been renewed for season 2. This follows its meteoric rise to the top of the streaming charts,

The reimagining of the 1989 cult classic has proven to be a powerhouse for the platform. The show blends suburban satire with modern mystery. Fans who spent the first season peering through the blinds of Hinkley Hills won’t have to wait long to see what new secrets are buried in the neighborhood.

The ‘Burbs renews for season 2 after record breaking debut

The renewal comes on the heels of staggering viewership data. Since its launch on February 8, the series has generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes. Its dominance was consistent, ranking as a top 10 streaming original for four consecutive weeks according to Nielsen data.

Perhaps most impressively, “The ’Burbs” now holds the title of the #1 Peacock scripted season of all time in terms of overall reach within its first 50 days. The show’s appeal isn’t limited to domestic audiences, either. The series has already been sold to more than 100 territories globally.

The ’Burbs season 1 is an absolute must-watch

The ’Burbs is an absolute must-watch series that successfully balances comedy with plenty of heart. It moves away from the grim murder mystery trope to offer a refreshing, high-energy escape.

The plot and setting are led by the endlessly charming Keke Palmer as Samira Fisher and Jack Whitehall as her husband Rob. The story follows a young couple moving into Rob’s childhood home on Ashfield Place. Their transition into parenthood is interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious neighbor across the street, situated right next to a Victorian mansion that has been abandoned for two decades.

Showrunner Celeste Hughey wrote the role of Samira specifically for Palmer, and it shows. The character is a perfect vehicle for Palmer’s range, blending sharp comedic timing with emotional depth. The show draws inspiration from Hitchcock’s Rear Window, satirizing suburban life while maintaining an addictive level of ambiguity. You’re never quite sure of any character’s true motivations.

With expert cliffhangers (particularly at the end of episode two) and clever Easter eggs for fans of the original Tom Hanks film, the eight-episode debut is designed to be inhaled.

While plot details for the sophomore season are being kept under wraps, the renewal ensures that the buried truths of Hinkley Hills will continue to be unearthed. With the series firmly establishing its own identity while honoring the spirit of the 1989 film, Season 2 promises more of the funny, warm, and contemporary storytelling that turned the first season into a success.

All episodes of “The ’Burbs” Season 1 are currently streaming on Peacock.
