WHAT THE REBELS ARE PLAYING
Stacy: Orwell- (2016) you just got hired by the Orwell firm to basically do surveillance on the people. As the player, you use all the cameras in the city to piece together clues and solve crimes. But are you helping people, and one of the good guys? Or are you part of the surveillance state and actually Big Brother? I’ve enjoyed it, you should give it a try.
Unheard- (2019) You work for a police station, and your job is to listen to police recordings and again, solve crimes! There is a theme here….. You are free to move the character around the map and listen in on the recording. The characters you listen to move from room to room, and you can follow them and hear what they say in other rooms to help solve the crime. Match voices to names and find out whodunnit! Another fun indie game from last year!
Amanda: It’s more Call of Duty: Warzone for me this week. I’ve had a good mix of successes and epic fails in the Battle Royale. All I can say is watch out for telephone poles when you’re trying to avoid getting shot on a quad lol. The new season has dropped now and the massive update took a full day for me to download from 11 am to 6 pm, it’s chunky. I recommend you set this bad boy to install overnight if you haven’t already.
GAMING NEWS
Tokyo (CNN Business)-A Japanese woman who built a cult following online with her video game skills has been recognized as the world’s oldest YouTube gamer — at the age of 90. Hamako Mori, known as “Gamer Grandma” to her 250,000 YouTube subscribers, started gaming 39 years ago. She got started gaming in the early ’80s, and graduated from the original Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior to Skyrim and GTA, and has been known to stay up late playing Call of Duty!
Sega’s Big Reveal – Well, it wasn’t so big, was it? For the 60th anniversary, Sega teased a big announcement that dropped with a thud as it was revealed to be just a cloud version of their arcade tech, Sega Fog. Wah, wah.
Lootboxes as Gambling UK – UK Ministers are calling for evidence on games like Fifa in an effort to draft legislation on the legality of loot boxes in the country. It’s a great step for the UK to take after other nations such as Belgium have already classed them as a form of gambling.
EPAL.GG – THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY
Stacey: Great for training purposes if you’re learning a new game or practicing a strategy. But not the most healthy way to develop friendships or relationships with others. These are effectively E-escorts, paid for their time to play games with you, and as long as you know the time you spend with the escort is finite and the interaction you had was paid for, then maybe you can enter the transaction in a healthy way.
Amanda: I’ve contributed to the gold farming economy and everyone knows power leveling exists, but the odd pseudo-friendship concept this site offers skeeves me out in a way. Having seen fans of streamers put themselves at risk financially to give donations and influencers prey on that false-sense of friendship to gain more income, I just can’t see this being good. If you can’t make a single friend online yourself… I think therapy is a better use of your money and I mean that very seriously.
