Sk8 the Infinity OVA Announced During SK8 Event

SK8 Week is back in Okinawa this week! After being postponed in August, Sk8 the Infinity fans gathered in Okinawa, Japan on January 21st to celebrate the anime! During the live stream, Reki Kyan and Langa Hasegawa’s seiyus (Japanese voice actors), Tasuku Hatanaka and Chiaki Kobayashi respectively, brought us a fun evening of character rankings, performances, and news of the Sk8 the Infinity OVA (original video animation*)!

SK8 Week Event in Okinawa

Since Sk8 the Infinity began in January 2021, it has been well loved in Japan. Each year, in August, a special week-long event takes place in Okinawa, the setting of the series itself. A special live stream took place to celebrate three years of the series, kicking off the week-long event in Okinawa with Tasuku Hatanaka and Chiaki Kobayashi hosting.

Tasuku and Chiaka started off with revealing the results of a character ranking poll that happened leading up to this event. Fans had the opportunity to vote for the character they believed would most likely become an idol, would squish a bug with no problem, take over cooking hot pot, and who would most likely survive in an isekai.

Tasuku and Chiaka also performed a short, original skit, where Reki and Langa go clothes. Reki picked out clothing for Langa to try, and it ended with Langa finding jeans and a t-shirt, something more his style.

Then, they discussed different episodes and scenes that had a lot of impact on fans as well as the actors. Crowd participation was encouraged for voting on which episode was their favorite by cheering the loudest.

As a thank you to the fans for loving this series for three years, both Tasuku and Chiaka sang along to the closing song of the series, “Infinity” by Yuuri.

Sk8 the Infinity OVA News: High School Joe and Cherry

In August 2022, fans erupted with joy over the announcement of a second season and an OVA. Now, we finally have news of the content of the OVA! In Sk8 the Infinity season 1, the audience gets a glimpse into the high school life of S founders Joe and Cherry. With this new OVA, we should get a much more in-depth look at what these two were like and possibly see just how the world of S was created.

The first of four visual teasers was unveiled by Tasuku and Chiaki toward the end of the event. According to the official Twitter/X account, the next three visuals will be released at a later time. As of right now, there is no news as to when the OVA will air, but fans are hoping we will not have to wait too much longer.

Fans took to Twitter/X with their celebrations the moment the announcement happened.

Not only that, but also the English voice actors of Joe, Cherry, and Miya made it apparent just how excited they are for these beloved characters to finally return.

The original anime series follows a second-year high school student named Reki Kyan and his love for skateboarding. Reki meets Langa Hasegawa, a transfer student, and teaches him how much fun skateboarding is. They spend some of their evenings at a secret skateboard event called “S,” in an abandoned mine, where there are no rules.
