The Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic-Con made two huge announcements this past weekend. First, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be getting a second season. Secondly, Emmy Award winning actress Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) will be joining the cast in a recurring guest role.
CBS News national correspondent Vladimir Duthiers moderated the panel. Robert Picardo unexpectedly appeared on-stage before introducing a surprise livestream straight from the set of STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY. Executive Producer/ co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman joined the livestream broadcast to make the announcements alongside cast members, including Sandro Rosta and Kerrice Brooks. Watch the video below:
It was previously announced that actors Tig Notaro, Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, Holly Hunter, and Paul Giamatti will join the cast in recurring guest roles in the first season.
STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY follows the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets. We’ll watch as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
