The Legend of Vox Machina

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 Will Debut In 2026 & Set Up The Endgame For The Series

“The Legend of Vox Machina” will return in 2026! Critical Role’s Animation panel at San Diego Comic Con was full of exciting news and insights for both “The Legend of Vox Machina” and “Mighty Nein”. Sam Riegel teased that the fourth season will set up the endgame for “The Legend of Vox Machina.”

Season 3 ended with the titular heroes defeating the Chroma Conclave, thus saving Exandria. With the dragons defeated, it seemed no other threat could reach the magnitude of these creatures that decimated Emon and other cities. However, the final moments of the season revealed this may not be the case.

The Whispered One May Be Vox Machina’s Most Dangerous Enemy

The Whispered One is a mysterious villain that remains unknown to Vox Machina. First introduced in season one, Delilah Briarwood was a follower of The Whispered One. However, whatever her machinations were for this individual failed, leaving a spinning black orb in its wake in the ziggurat below Whitestone. Vox Machina left this behind, returning to Emon after avenging Percy’s family and taking back his city.

This oversight will haunt Vox Machina as The Whispered One seems to have finally awakened. Vox Machina will take on this potentially world-ending threat in the fourth season. While the Chroma Conclave proved nearly impossible to defeat, The Whispered One may be even more deadly.

First Look At The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4

During Critical Role’s animation panel, they shared not just the 2026 release date announcement, but an all-new clip of the fourth season. In the clip, Vox Machina are seeking help from their longtime ally Gilmore. After failing to discover anything about The Whispered One their only lead is the Cobalt Soul. Pike had a dream that included someone in Cobalt Soul garb fighting the Whispered One.

They believe the Cobalt Soul may have a scroll with information about the their enigmatic foe. However, they are notoriously secretive. Following Gilmore’s understandable hesitance Percy pitched an elaborate plan for a heist to steal the scroll from the Cobalt Soul and learn more about The Whispered One. After the clip Ashley Johnson revealed that the episode this clip is from is not only one of her favorites, but was also written by Liam O’Brien and Marisha Ray.

Taryon Darrington Joins The Party

The clip also introduced a new member of the party, Taryon Darrington. This wealthy adventurer was Riegel’s second character in the campaign in the wake of intraparty conflict causing a bit of a shakeup. Travis Willingham also excitedly pointed out they are able to create more connective tissue between “The Legend of Vox Machina” and the “Mighty Nein.” Including the Cobalt Soul is a prime example of this.

Riegel also revealed that season four of “The Legend of Vox Machina” will kick off with a musical number, but it won’t be sung by Scanlan. Laura Bailey also shared that she is excited to delve further into the relationship between Vex and Vax. As their stories progress they are pulled further apart from one another while also being brought back together. It seems this season will explore this deeper than the original campaign did.

The Whispered One is a massive threat with implications that will ripple throughout Exandria. It’s no wonder Riegel teased this as the endgame. However, there is more to come with “The Legend of Vox Machina” renewed for a fifth and final season. Like the Chroma Conclave, The Whispered One will be a multi-season enemy that will take Exandria’s heroes to the brink and test them like never before.

The first three seasons of “The Legend of Vox Machina” are available now on Prime Video. Season 4 will debut in 2026, followed by the fifth and final season. “Mighty Nein” will premiere on November 19th of this year.
