A lot of geek news came out the week of March 5th through the 13th. There were so many different announcements. Let’s take a look at this week in geek.

this week in geek comic con revolution logoComic-Con Revolution in Ontario, California announced their new dates. This December 18th and 19th, CCROnt will finally be back at the Ontario Convention Center for their fourth year. This is the only full-scale, family-friendly comic convention that takes place in the Inland Empire. There will be so much to see and do for everyone in the family and, as always, kids 12 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket (up to 2 kids per adult ticket).

Designer Con, an annual art and design convention, also announced their new dates. Designer Con brings together collectible toys, customs, plush, designer apparel and so much more with urban, underground, and pop art! Designer Con 2021 will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California November 12th through the 14th.

Anime Expo and San Diego Comic-Con have canceled their in-person events again this year. They will each host virtual events in July. Anime Expo will celebrate 2021 in honor of our 30th anniversary. Their virtual event “Anime Expo Lite” will return on July 4th weekend! San Diego Comic-Con will once again hold this year’s celebration as the free online Comic-Con@Home. San Diego Comic-Con will host a smaller, unannounced event in the fall.

Disney aims to reopen Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks after a year of being closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The announcement said that the parks will aim to open sometime in April 2021. CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement on Tuesday, “Here in California, we’re encouraged by the positive trends we’re seeing and we’re hopeful they’ll continue to improve and we’ll be able to reopen our Parks to guests with limited capacity by late April — we look forward to publicizing an opening date in the coming weeks.”

Featuring Kelly Marie Tran as the voice of Raya and Awkwafina as the voice of Sisu, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Raya and the Last Dragon will be in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on March 5, 2021. The animation is brilliant. Check out our review here.

Disney Plus and Marvel Studios are bringing us a brand new television series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier beginning on March 19th. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are reprising their roles as Sam Wilson “The Falcon” and Bucky Barnes “The Winter Soldier” from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The premiere episode of “Assembled: The Making of WandaVision” aired on Disney+ on March 12th. This groundbreaking series of documentary-style specials features Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and the creative team behind Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision.” Here, viewers will be brought behind the scenes in an all-encompassing look at Marvel Studios’ first, and arguably most unusual, streaming series.

In Big Finish Productions news, “Dalek Universe” brings back the Tenth Doctor and brings in new characters. The cast of the Big Finish Doctor Who series “Dalek Universe” has been chatting about their characters and the new story out in April.

Hellblazer: Rise and Fall #1 starring John Constantine from DCUI

This was another week full of additions to the DC Universe Infinite. There will be a brand-new John Constantine horror-mystery titled Hellblazer: Rise and Fall #1. Transmetropolitan’s artist Darick Robertson teams up with writer Tom Taylor. More DCUI comics news can be found on the DCUI blog.

DC, Warner Bros. Global Brands and Experiences, and WarnerMedia are bringing the “Wonder” to International Women’s Day. They will be launching a global celebration that honors the 80-year legacy of DC’s Champion of Truth and Warrior for Peace, Wonder Woman. Embracing the call to see the world through Wonder Woman’s eyes and to “Believe in Wonder,” the 80th Anniversary celebration illuminates the Super Hero’s timeless and relevant message of hope and empowerment. The celebration includes original content, commemorative comics, books, and global fashion collections and experiences. This multi-month campaign will culminate with a worldwide celebration of Wonder Woman Day in October.
