The Broken Batch
With the demise of fan-favorite Tech and the kidnapping of the youngest member of the squad, Omega, the emotional season two finale left the Batch broken and disheartened. The season three trailer goes a long way in assuring fans that, despite all the despair, the fight isn’t over, far from it.
Hunter, Wrecker and a third figure who looks suspiciously like Crosshair back in his old Clone Force 99 armor, seem determined to get Omega back. No matter the cost. With help from The Bad Batch regular guest characters like Captain Rex and Phee Genoa, it’s hard to imagine how they could fail.
Hard but, if season two’s finale was any indication, not impossible.
Old Faces, New Stories?
Over the course of its run, The Bad Batch has been known for bringing back characters from The Clone Wars and Rebels, such as Hera Syndulla and Saw Gerrera. Season three stands to be no different with the trailer showcasing Clone Commander Wolffe (CC-3636) and, most surprisingly and excitedly, Asajj Ventress.
Hardcore fans know that Ventress’ last appearance was in the book Star Wars: Dark Disciple by Christie Golden. If you’ve somehow managed to avoid spoilers for Ventress’ story in this book, we won’t change that here. However, we reassure readers that creators of The Bad Batch confirmed their inclusion of Ventress works alongside events from Dark Disciple.
Evil to the Core
Though only introduced in the second half of season two, the nefarious Dr. Hemlock stands to be the ultimate villain in season three. Working alongside Palpatine himself, Hemlock has Omega locked away and, just as the Batch are determined to get her back, he seems determined to keep her. Though we’re fifteen episodes away from a final answer, we can guess, by Palpatine’s own words from the trailer, that Omega is the key to something. Maybe everything?
Will Hemlock and Palpatine get what they want from Omega before the Batch can break her free? How many more beloved characters will we lose in the process? Will Hunter be able to give Omega the peaceful life he’s dreamed for her for so long?
Clone Force 99 have never been very good at following orders. We can only hope that, this time, their rule-breaking helps them all make it out alive.
The first three episodes of The Bad Batch season three premier on Wednesday, February 21st 2024 on Disney+.
