First Look at Ms. Marvel launching on Disney+ in late 2021

Today audiences were given a first look at Ms. Marvel. The new live-action show will be launching on Disney+ in late 2021. It is a new series that introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.

Ms. Marvel on Disney+

During the Walt Disney Company Investor’s Day audiences were given a first look at Ms. Marvel which is coming to Disney+ late next year. In the video below, Disney introduces us to Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan who stars as Ms. Marvel. It gives a look at the tone and theme of the show. We get a few behind-the-scenes looks at how casting took place and what we can expect.

The cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

What you need to know about Ms. Marvel

The live-action Disney Plus show “Ms. Marvel” was announced at D23 in August 2019. In this Let’s Talk episode below, Temple of Geek host, Aaron Powell gives a brief overview of who the character is and what he hopes to see on the show.

  • Kamal Khan is a Pakistani American Teenager who finds out that has superpowers. She wakes up one day with superpowers.
  • Khan made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #14 (August 2013) before going on to star in the solo series Ms. Marvel, which debuted in February 2014. Ms. Marvel #1 was a critical and commercial hit with extremely high demand.
  • Khan is Marvel’s first Muslim superhero.
  • She has the power to grow super strong and makes her hands get really heavy so she can punch you in the face.
  • Khan is an Inhuman. The Inhumans are a group of superheroes appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The show briefly had an Inhuman television series that was not well received and canceled after one season by ABC.
  • She got her name is her favorite superhero Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, who used to go by Miss Marvel.
