SDCC 2025: “Resident Alien” Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, and Corey Reynolds

The cast and showrunner of Resident Alien gave fans an exciting update on the fan-favorite series at San Diego Comic-Con(SDCC) on July 25th! Stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, and Corey Reynolds, along with showrunner/executive producer Chris Sheridan, pulled back the curtain on the current fourth season and even debuted a sneak peek at this week’s episode.

Resident Alien Season 4 dives deep into Harry’s most perilous adventure yet! After being stuck in prison on the Grey Moonbase with his baby, Bridget, Harry manages a daring escape. But a shape-shifting Mantid alien has taken over his body on Earth, posing as the real Harry Vanderspeigle. Now, our beloved alien-turned-doctor must face off against this formidable impostor, but he might not have everything he needs to win. Meanwhile, Asta and D’arcy are struggling to keep a massive secret from Ben and Kate, who are desperate for answers about what’s been happening to them. And back in Patience, Sheriff Mike and Deputy Liv are investigating mysterious deaths that Mike increasingly suspects aren’t of human origin. Get ready for more hilarious antics, heartwarming moments, and thrilling sci-fi mysteries!

Interviews with the cast of “Resident Alien” at San Diego Comic-Con

During the interviews, cast members shared personal reflections on their characters and experiences on the show.

Alice Wetterlund on Darcy’s Journey to Self-Love, comedy and more

Alice Wetterlund discussed her character D’arcy’s journey of self-love and growth, noting that Darcy’s evolution taught her confidence. She also touched on becoming a dramatic actor through her role as Darcy. Wetterlund revealed that D’arcy’s character was not in the original IP, allowing for significant creative freedom in her development. She spoke about the bittersweet nature of saying goodbye to the show and the missed opportunity for a rekindled storyline between D’arcy and Elliot.

Wetterlund praised Alan Tudyk’s directing, highlighting his generosity and vulnerability in the role. She also shared how her own humor influenced D’arcy’s character, particularly with early ad-libs that helped solidify the character’s voice. Her favorite moment from the series was the Waltz scene, which she found incredibly touching. Wetterlund reminisced about living in Valencia, Spain, for six months in 2002, and her love for the country and its people.

Sara Tomko on Lessons Learned from Asta

Sara Tomko discussed Asta’s trajectory of self-love and finding herself throughout the seasons, emphasizing Asta’s journey from an abusive relationship to self-discovery. She highlighted the cast’s strong chemistry and how the challenging storylines fostered growth among them.

Tomko admitted that, as Sarah, she sometimes disagreed with Asta’s choices, particularly regarding lying to save humanity. She emphasized her approach as an actor to always lead with honesty, even in comedic roles. Tomko expressed gratitude for her first role as a series regular, stating it “definitely changed my life”. She shared that she would be taking Asta’s leather jacket, a pair of black jeans, and a bracelet (which she believes her dad gave her for protection) with her from the show. Tomko also noted she would take Asta’s patience with her.

The Dual Role Challenge: Alan Tudyk as Actor and Director

Alan Tudyk, who also directed two episodes, described the difficulty of playing two roles in a scene. He expressed his passion for directing comedy, noting a “wellspring of ideas” for comedic scenes. Tudyk acknowledged the significant collaboration with his wife, Carissa Barton, on the visual aspects of the show, especially for non-comedic scenes.

Tudyk shared insights into the casting process, including recommending Edie Patterson for the role of Heather. He reflected on what he learned from Harry, noting the character’s innocence and childlike quality. And how it encouraged him to remove his own filters.

Corey Reynolds’ Final Season Reflections

Corey Reynolds expressed hope that fans would feel satisfied with the conclusion of the series. Noting that despite the show’s cancellation, it offers closure. He believes the series provides a complete story over its 44 episodes, potentially attracting new viewers and “continuing to live on”.

Reynolds also voiced the team’s desire to make a Resident Alien movie. He highlighted the exciting experience of writing his own lines for an interrogation scene in Season 1. Where his ad-libs were eventually incorporated into the script. Reynolds shared his appreciation for the show’s “left turn humor” and the freedom to improvise on set, citing a particular scene involving a “murderous mime”.

Resident Alien Season 4 airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA and SYFY. Season 4 episodes are available on Peacock one week after air.
