Alex has always felt a strong connection to Billie. It’s why she entrusted her to her brother, Justin (David Henrie), to train and grow her magic. She would be ready to face the prophecy ahead of her. It wasn’t just because of how much Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) reminded Alex of herself. The reason she had a strong connection is that Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) is Billie’s mom.
“Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” Season Recap
In this continuation series, Alex Russo drops off a young wizard, Billie, with her brother, Justin, and his mortal family to train her. After the events of season one, Billie learns about the prophecy the oracle foretold. Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo’s (Max Matenko) dormant wizard powers get activated. Throughout season two, Lord Morsus has been doing everything he can to harness her power for himself. In an emotional flashback, it’s revealed that not only is Alex her mom, but Lord Morsus is Billie’s paternal grandfather. He makes her open the rift between the mortal and dark magical world to save the Russos.
Before mother and daughter can properly reunite, Alex makes another hard choice. What should have been a triumphant reunion ends with heartbreak.
What Does That Mean for Alex Russo?
The best way to protect her from her grandfather was to erase Billie not only from everyone, but also from herself. There has been a lot of speculation on what that means for her fate within Wizards Beyond Waverley Place after she threw Lord Morsus and herself into the portal. Alex Russo did what any mother would do for their child.
While Alex might be lost in the dark, magical world, she is not truly gone. While her time in that dark world might change Alex in ways we have yet to know, Billie will be the one to save her mom. As strong as Alex’s love is for Billie, it may be their love that saves them all.
Questions After Watching the Season Two Finale
The biggest Easter Egg in this finale wasn’t just that Billie is Alex’s mom. Alex Russo is married to Damian Penwolf. You can see her wedding ring in the flashback. It was his idea to erase Billie from their memory to protect her. The shocking twists leave fans with questions that still need to be answered. Where is Alex’s husband, Damian? When she erased Billie from her mind, does that mean she also erased their relationship? Where is Damian Penwolf? Does Billie have to compete in the Wizard Family Competition since she’s their cousin?
