About London Comic Con Spring
We saw the return of London Comic Con Spring from February 29th to March 1st, 2020. London Comic Con brought stars of Film & TV for attendees to meet, get their autographs & have their photo taken with them! All this takes place at the historic Olympia London.
This one of two Showmasters London Cons that takes place every year, the second being in July. The difference between this con and London Film and Comic Con in July is not just the inclusion of the word “Film” in the title (which frankly doesn’t make much sense as both cons have film guests) is the size.
Guests
Sponsorship for guests at London Comic Con comes from Showmasters. Showmasters has grown its unique audience over a 15-year period, it is recognised by its visitors as one of the original and most established comic cons currently running in the UK.
Showmasters always does a brilliant job when it comes to guests. My favourites this year being Caitlin Blackwood (young Amelia Pond from Doctor Who) and Tosin Cole (The Doctor’s current companion in again, Doctor Who). Tosin was a very chill dude, he was walking around during the event without security talking to other guests, and he politely agreed to take this selfie with us as the event was ending! Such a sweet guy! Unfortunately, I did not manage to meet Caitlin Blackwood as she was only there on Sunday but I’ve heard wonderful things about her too, maybe next time I’ll meet you, Amelia Pond!
London Film and Comic Con takes place in two massive halls, with easily visible stairs in the larger hall. However, one complaint I personally have of the smaller spring convention is because they only use one hall (the smaller one) the stairs are not as easy to locate. As someone who is used to going to the bigger convention and relying on those stairs, trying to locate them in this singular hall was slightly harder. When you’re overwhelmed and late to a photo with a guest, this issue is quite apparent as quite a few of the people I have spoken to about this agreed. More signs were definitely needed.
What you can find there
The stalls (vendor booths/exhibits) at this convention were pretty standard nerdy stuff as always, however I was disappointed with the lack of Pokemon plushies, but that’s just my personal opinion! I could only find one stall and the whole hall selling them, so sad! I did however as always enjoy the international sweet (candy) section. The Japanese and American options were great! Below is a photo of two drink options available at the Japenese food shop. I had the Jigglypuff (peach) flavoured drink and my friend Ellie had the Mewtwo (strawberry) flavoured drink! Ellie liked hers but mine was far too sweet for my liking, I kept the can though!
While we are on the topic of food and drink, the absolute highlight for the convention for me was the free noodles! Nissin Foods Noodle Bars’ served sensational authentic Japanese Cup Noodles Snacks – all for free! It was unlimited per person and they were so good! Granted it was definitely a capitalist marketing scheme but it saved me lots of money and filled my tummy so I won’t complain!

To sum up, I would rate London Comic Con 2020 a solid 7/10. Of course, they cannot be blamed for the weather, but the long outside lines in the pouring rain definitely rank them down a bit. In the future it would be great for lines to be sheltered at least, especially considering the lines were over an hour-long to even enter the building. The food was great, the guests were great as always, the stalls were pretty standard. It was very much as I expected in all honesty! I would definitely recommend checking out London Comic Con and its counterpart Summer London Film and Comic-Con in July in the future if you get the chance!
