Atsushi Cosplay Guide | ‘Bungo Stray Dogs’ Cosplay

We are breaking down how to put together an Atsushi cosplay from the anime Bungo Stray Dogs. Atsushi Nakajima is one of the main characters and protagonists in both the anime and the manga.

Bungo Stray Dogs is an anime as well as a manga written by Kafka Asagiri. The anime began airing in 2016 and has three seasons, one OVA, and a movie. Season four is set to air January 2023. The story follows people gifted with special abilities who make up the group, “The Armed Detective Agency.” Their job is to protect Yokohama, Japan. Bungo Stray Dogs is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Atsushi Nakajima

Atsushi is a gifted member of the “Armed Detective Agency.” His special ability allows him to shift into a weretiger under the moonlight. The main characters in Bungo Stray Dogs are named after literary figures, and their abilities reference these authors’ works. Atsushi’s ability, “Beast Beneath the Moonlight,” references Atsushi Nakajima’s book, “The Moon Over the Mountain.”

Atsushi’s hair can be a challenge. His hair is a silvery-white and cut in a very specific way. There are quite a few wigs on Amazon that have the shape, but they will need a lot of styling.

If you are new to cutting and styling wigs, then this is my advice: cut slowly and use craft scissors. Synthetic wig hair will dull nicer scissors, so do not use nice hair-styling scissors for this job. Cut the bangs a little at a time and periodically check the lengths by adjusting the wig on your own head. There is a wig bangs cutting tutorial from Alexa Poletti on YouTube that is very helpful.

Atsushi Cosplay

Atsushi’s outfit remains the same throughout the series. This makes it easy to put together as there is no variance from season to season. The only exception would be when his clothing rips when he shifts from human to weretiger and back. First, start with a white button-up shirt and roll up the sleeves to the elbow. Then, add black pants. Atsushi’s are cropped, but rolled up and cuffed jeans will work just fine.

Next, Atsushi wears both suspenders and a belt. Both are black. The belt has an extra long piece that is reminiscent of a tail. One way to create this look is using Velcro to attach extra fabric to the end of a black belt. Sewing thin wire into the black fabric ahead of time will allow you to bend the “tail” the way you want it. However, cosplay is always up for interpretation. An Atsushi cosplay would be complete even without this long piece of tail. Finally, Atsushi wears black, fingerless gloves and black boots.

Pre-made cosplay works well, too. EZCosplay has already put together cosplays that can be custom fit to your sizing.

Overall, an Atsushi cosplay is simple and easy to put together with clothes a lot of people already own. Remember to have fun and wear pieces that are comfortable and work for your own personal take on this character.
