SPJA, the organization behind Anime Expo, hosted the first ever anime expo chibi in Ontario, California. The inaugural convention took place at the Ontario Convention Center November 12-13. Chainsaw Man Cosplay Gathering
Based on the award-winning manga of the same name, Chainsaw Man follows Denji, a teenage boy who lives anything but a normal life. Denji inherits his father’s debt and ends up betrayed and killed. He makes a contract with his pet chainsaw devil, Pochita, and comes back to life as “Chainsaw Man,” a man with a devil’s heart.
This last weekend, anime expo chibi provided an intimate setting for cosplayers to gather and pose for photos. There was a large turn-out for the Chainsaw Man meetup on day 1. From cosplay backdrops inside of the convention center to large spaces outside, there were plenty of photo opportunities.

This convention was a community-focused convention and was much smaller than Anime Expo. Anime fans had the opportunity to enjoy their favorite forms of Japanese pop culture on a smaller scale. It brought a nice change of pace from the bustle that is Anime Expo. The convention itself would be great for first-time anime convention goers who are looking for a more intimate convention setting.
