Comic Con Revolution 2021 was a convention with something for everyone

Comic Con Revolution 2021 took place in Ontario, California the weekend of December 18th and 19th. This convention was a calm one with few crowds. The Ontario Convention Center is quite big compared to others in neighboring cities, so everything felt spread out. There were panels to enjoy, vendors and artist’s tables to browse and shop from, and cosplay contests.

Comic Con Revolution was a convention with something for everyone. With plenty of space between vendors and artists, it was easy to check out the booths without feeling cramped. The Ontario Convention Center is bigger than the ones in neighboring cities. The room where attendees could line up for pictures and autographs from celebrity guests was large enough to keep the lines from getting too crowded. Celebrity guests this year included Dean Cain (Lois & Clark, Supergirl), Jack De Sena (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), and many more.

Generally speaking, conventions tend to see more attendees on their Saturday dates versus Sunday. This time, it felt as though that was switched around. On Saturday, there were few cosplayers and less people walking through the exhibit hall. On Sunday, however, the crowds did feel a little larger. This is just an observation. Both days at the convention were enjoyable.

In fact, Sunday brought Santa! Santa took free photos with families and listened to what children asked for for Christmas. Parts of the convention center itself were decorated for the holiday season, which gave the entire weekend a very festive feel.

The vendors brought fun merchandise, and the artists provided incredible pieces. Being the weekend before Christmas, artist alley felt like the best place to shop for last-minute gifts. Merchandise and artwork spanned a multitude of fandoms. From Marvel to Anime, from Sci-Fi to classic video games to original pieces, there was something there for everyone.

Panels available included fan-run panels as well as spotlights with the celebrity guests. For instance, Temple of Geek hosted a panel to discuss our web-series Portrait of a FangirlAlso, a Doctor Who fan-run costuming group called “The Order of Gallifrey” hosted a panel to talk about designing and costuming from the show. There was a spotlight on Avatar: The Last Airbender where Jack De Sena, Jenni Kwan, and Jessi Flower, the voice actors of Sokka, Suki, and Toph, respectively, talked about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the show, recording at home, and more.

For cosplayers, there was a cosplay contest for both adults and children. Cosplay is a play on the words “costume” and “play.” Attendees to conventions dress as their favorite characters from pop culture. Whether it be a store-bought costume, completely homemade, or thrift and semi-homemade, cosplay is a fun way for convention goers to express their love for different characters. Check out the convention’s Instagram for both contests’ winners.

Comic Con Revolution will return to the Ontario Convention Center May 21-22, 2022. Follow them on social media or visit their website for more information.
