Marvel Studios “Shang-Chi” Director Destin Daniel Cretton to Direct “Avengers: Kang Dynasty”

Destin Daniel Cretton, will continue his relationship with the studios and direct the upcoming film from Marvel Studios, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. It appears that even with San Diego Comic-Con 2022 officially coming to a close on Sunday, July 24, the announcements and hype coming from Marvel Studios announcements from Hall H on Saturday are still carrying that energy to today. In an exclusive from the news outlet, The Hollywood Reporter, it was reported that the director of the blockbuster and groundbreaking film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will direct the upcoming film from Marvel Studios, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

During the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige, came on to the Hall H stage to discuss the updates to the current Phase 4 films and features streaming on Disney+ as well as announce all the projected release dates for Phase 5 including a mind-blowing look towards Phase 6. One of the biggest announcements during that panel was that of having TWO Avengers films in 2025. This is in contrast to Phase 3 of the MCU with Joe and Anthony Russo (known as The Russo Brothers) directing both Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Avengers: Endgame in 2019 as well as the previous MCU films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil WarAvengers: The Kang Dynasty will preclude the sequel Avengers: Secret Wars to conclude what has been announced by Feige as “The Multiverse Saga.”

Further announcements haven’t been made regarding the sequel or the precluding film, except that we can expect that Jonathan Majors, who most recently played “He Who Remains” in Marvel Studios Loki will reprise his role as an Avengers longtime villain in The Kang Dynasty, Kang The Conquerer.

In addition to Destin’s success behind Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi, the Studios’ parent company, Disney had also announced that he will also be the director for the live adaptation of writer Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel, American Born Chinese, and that filming has already wrapped according to the Instagram post by Ke Huy Quan who will also play a role in the live-action adaptation. See the post below:

Directing for an Avengers film and as part of Marvel Studios next big saga will be a huge undertaking for the director, but if Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was any indication of how Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will play out, then there is some assurance that it will leave the fans with much to anticipate for the upcoming film in Phase 6.
