Jody Houser Question and Answer for “Doctor Who: Alternating Current”

mmPosted by

Titan Comic’s Doctor Who: Alternating Current Volume One is a brand new story in Titan Comics’ Doctor Who roster and is written by Jody Houser. The story features the Thirteenth and Tenth Doctor teaming up again as they attempt to save reality, this time with the help of Rose Tyler. Jody Houser is a best-selling and critically acclaimed comics writer. Houser is known for their work on Faith, Mother Panic, Star Wars: Rogue One, Star Wars: Thrawn, and has also written the latest comic books in the Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious project.

Q&A with Jody Houser

The Sea Devils are a classic villain, and the Skithra are a newer villain. What was the inspiration behind choosing those two aliens?

Jody: I think it’s a fun mix to have Earth at the center of two different aliens’ machinations. Since this is a bit of a mystery for the Doctors to deal with, I wanted to have two very unlikely allies.

There is a scene in the beginning of the comic where Graham tells Ryan he hasn’t gotten into “nearly as much trouble with the authorities” before the Doctor. Can you tell us what you had in mind that Graham has done in the past to get himself into trouble?

Jody: That was in part a joke, but I thought it might also be a fun thing to explore down the line!

What was it like to write Rose Tyler as someone so different from who she was in seasons 1,2 and 4 of Doctor Who?

Jody: It was a lot of fun writing a darker Rose Tyler that the Doctor didn’t entirely recognize. She was fighting on the right side, but maybe not the right way.

What drew you to using “Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror” as an episode to revisit?

Jody: This suggestion actually came from the BBC, I believe! I got the chance to read the script in advance of the series airing.

What do you hope readers take away with them after they are done reading volume 1?

Jody: I hope if it’s their first time looking into the work that Roberta, Eren and myself have done, they will check out more of our Doctor Who stories!

Doctor Who: Alternating Current Volume One is out now and can be found to purchase on Amazon, Forbidden Planet, and digital devices.
