Doctor Who

The next chapter in the Doctor Who: Origins story is wonderful! It really kicks the plot into gear with a nice twist that tests the morals of our new companion. We have landed on a new planet that claims they sent for help from Gallifrey. In this issue, we find out exactly who these aliens are and why they would ask for help from Gallifrey. You simply can not miss the next issue of this series.

Graphic Novels

Frank Lee: After Alcatraz is a graphic novel from Titan Comics that explores what could have been. The second chance at life for one Frank Lee. Not going to lie, I was skeptical about this graphic novel because it isn’t my normal genre and not the art style I am normally drawn to. However, the art style fully connects to the story and allows for necessary consistency. The feeling of both the art and story is very gritty, which I suppose is appropriate for a post-prison break story. I love the balance of Frank trying to find something new for himself and the flashbacks of him in prison. The story is very internal, and though this comic genre isn’t normally something I’m drawn to, the storytelling style is compelling and raw. That is very much something that I love.

Negalyod: The God Network has dinosaurs…now there are other selling points but that’s really my favorite. This graphic novel tells its story in pictures more than most. The artwork outweighs any dialogue or exposition, yet the story is easy to follow and very well conveyed. I love the world. Dinosaurs are very prevalent but so is technology. And not in a Jurassic World kind of way, the world is built around dinosaurs with a technological additive and not the other way around. If you enjoy stories of loneliness and isolation, then here you go.

Titan Comics is also releasing Elric: The Bane of Black Sword, a graphic novel that immediately gives off a more vintage comic book vibe. This graphic novel is a compilation of 5 different stories of Elric. This one I completely fell in love with. The fantasy and the drama paired with the artwork and heightened stakes was the perfect combination. The artwork is consistent across all 5 stories, and each chapter is short enough to make it an easy read, but long enough to tell a complete story. This is definitely one of the best stories to come out of Titan Comics.

Titan Comics is releasing all new and amazing content this month, and truly it’s all worth reading. Our specific recommendations are the next issue of Doctor Who: Origins and Elric: The Bane of Black Sword. All titles will be released by the 12th and available both physically and digitally.
