Star Fox, a Remake of Star Fox 64, Announced, Launching June 25

During a last minute Star Fox Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has announced a remake of Star Fox 64, simply titled Star Fox. It features the same arcade-style aerial combat the original is known for, but with vastly improved visuals, voice acting, and quality of life improvements. Check out the full announcement below.

The Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive remake of the 1997 original is launching very soon, June 25. Details on price are still at unclear. Like the original, the game follows Fox McCloud and his Star Fox Team Falco, Slippy, and Peppy. Calling back to the adorable Star Fox puppets from E3’s passed, the character models have been redesigned to fit this aesthetic and capture a more animalistic tone.

It appears the game’s story and route-based exploration are unchanged, but the end of the Direct showed off a prologue chapter featuring James McCloud, Fox’s dad, in a mission from the first game for the SNES. There will also be online multiplayer matchmaking and local cooperative options. Online multiplayer will involve the 3D All Range Mode and pit teams of four against each other. Local cooperative play will have players on the same console taking either a pilot or gunner role.

Star Fox takes advantage of the Switch 2’s mouse functionality, allowing you to control your Arwing with it. You can also use the system’s in-game chat to to communicate with your party. The biggest surprise, however, is that you can use your Switch 2 camera to replace your avatar with one of the characters in a sort of V-tuber style.

Fox McCloud recently played a pivotal role in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, prompted many fans to speculate about potential new game or his own movie.
