Billie Joe Armstrong’s “The Coverups” to Headline 9th Annual Fandom Party at San Diego Comic-Con

The ultimate convention-week celebration is officially locked in. Fandom has announced its return to San Diego for its highly anticipated ninth annual Fandom Party. The event will take center stage on Thursday, July 23, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This year, the exclusive event will take over FLOAT at the Hard Rock Hotel, positioning itself right at the beating heart of fan culture. Headlining the night is none other than The Coverups, a high-energy rock cover band featuring Green Day’s iconic frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong.

A Spontaneous Night of Punk & Rock Classics

Formed in California in 2018, The Coverups are known for intimate, playful, and completely spontaneous performances. Alongside Armstrong, the lineup features longtime collaborators and friends Jason White, Chris Dugan, and Bill Schneider.

Instead of their usual stadium-sized anthems, the band delivers a fan-friendly set paying homage to the punk, rock, and alternative hits that shaped their musical lives. Attendees can expect a legendary, fast-paced setlist featuring tracks from:

  • The Clash
  • Ramones
  • David Bowie
  • The Cure
  • Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Immersive Fan Experiences & Activations

Presented by Xbox’s upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Fandom Party brings together industry partners, celebrities, influencers, and die-hard fans under one roof. Attendees will be treated to a variety of immersive, hands-on activations throughout the night:

Step Into the Halo Universe

Gamers can dive into a dedicated Halo-themed play zone for an exclusive, hands-on look at Halo: Campaign Evolved. Best of all, partygoers get to play it the very night of the event. Days ahead of its official global launch on July 28. A custom Halo photo booth will also be on-site to transport fans directly into the legendary gaming universe.

The -196 Freeze Point

Official spirits partner Suntory Global Spirits is bringing an authentic taste of Japan’s beloved konbini (convenience store) culture to San Diego. Attendees can stop by the vibrant -196 Freeze Point to snap photos and sample fruit-forward -196 Vodka Seltzers in Lemon, Strawberry, Peach, and Grapefruit flavors.

Custom Merch by Z2 Comics

Longtime pop-culture partner Z2 Comics is returning to the mix this year. The publisher will offer guests exclusive, custom-designed merchandise celebrating their highly anticipated upcoming graphic novel and feature film, And Out Comes the Wolf.

How to Attend

The Fandom Party has established itself as one of the most coveted invites of the entire convention week. While the guest list fills up fast with creators and industry insiders, everyday fans still have a chance to score a ticket. Fandom advises anyone looking to attend to keep a close eye on Fandom’s official social media channels for upcoming details on how to enter and win access to the party.
