Invincible S2 Ep7 “I’m Not Going Anywhere” Recap

We’re nearing the climax of Prime Video’s Invincible Season 2! Prime Video now and there is so much to talk about. In the penultimate episode of Invincible, Season 2 Episode 7 “I’m Not Going Anywhere”, Amber Bennett ( voiced by Zazie Beetz) and Mark Grayson (Steven Yeu) go to a comic book convention. A delightful bit of meta-commentary, perfect for a comic book story.

Invincible Season2 Episode 7 “I’m Not Going Anywhere” Recap

Amber and Mark’s relationship continues to be super tense and awkward. There are still a lot of loose ends to tie up but the pacing of the show continues to be excellent and manages to fit so many villains into single episodes in a way that feels natural and complete. Invincible episode 7 focuses more on the Guardians of the Globe and the more personal side of superhero-ing.

There is this funny sequence when Mark goes to get a comic book signed and they poke fun at themselves and how long animation takes, it’s delightful.

Superheroes with Personal Problems

Rex, who is still not fully healed, goes on a mission by himself with his new hand. He, of course, needs to be saved by Invincible and the Guardians of the Globe seem to be falling apart. They are going through some deep personal problems and their interpersonal relationships seem to be getting in their way. The Immortal is deeply heartbroken and depressed over Kate’s death, to the point where he can not seem to function properly as a person let alone a leader. Rex (Jason Mantzoukas) is really trying to be his old self but he clearly feels incomplete. Rudy wants nothing more than to help Amanda but she is resistant to his solutions.

Gillian Jacobs (Atom Eve)

Donald watches through security tapes everything that he went through before he was rebuilt. Cecil maintains that he did nothing but help him. And Donald realizes that he chose to have his memories erased, and he makes the same choice again. He wants to be able to do his job properly, without hesitation. He finds out that he’s fully died 39 times, which is shocking.

Trouble for The Guardians of the Globe

Mark almost gets kicked out of school, but his old high school principal is now his dean and he gives him a deadline to prove that he wants to be at school. Mark talks to his mom about what it was like to date a superhero, he feels so much guilt over what he’s been putting Amber through. The Guardians of the Globe cover for Mark while he takes some time for just him and Amber. He is making some serious boyfriend effort and it’s very adorable. Their perfect date is interrupted by a Viltrimite threatening to rip Amber’s head off. She claims to love and wants to help the human race, she even helps Mark defeat a giant, evil sea monster. Now obviously this isn’t true she is just trying to get Mark to do what the Viltrimites want him to do, which is help them take over the planet.

Steven Yeun (Mark Grayson)

The Guardians of the Globe are disintegrating emotionally and if the rest of these threats are going to come to a head they are going to have to pull it together. The episode ends with the Viltrimite threat getting much more imminent and Amber and Mark breaking up making the I’m Not Going Anywhere title of the episode painfully ironic.

The second half of Season Two will consist of four episodes premiering weekly, starting Thursday, March 14 on Prime Video.
