The Legend of Vox Machina

Laura Bailey Teases Growth In Keyleth & Vex’s Relationship In The Legend of Vox Machina

“The Legend of Vox Machina” returns with our heroes scattered across Exandria. Focusing on their own lives and adventures. Percy and Vex in particular have faced quite a bit of trauma and strife. Now, they have a chance of happiness and peace in the wake of saving Exandria from the Chroma Conclave.

Season four of “The Legend of Vox Machina” is an opportunity to show them as a secure and happy couple. However, that peace doesn’t tend to last for long for adventurers. When a new threat begins to rise up, they’ll need to step up once again as heroes of the realm. Now, though, they know what they have to lose and what they need to protect.

In an exclusive interview with Temple of Geek, Laura Bailey and Taliesin Jaffe tease where Vex and Percy begin the season. Jaffe jokes that Percy’s paranoia is proven right, but now he has something to lose. Bailey reflects on Vex’s growth and promises fun scenes with Keyleth.

Vex’s Emotional Growth Is At The Forefront Of The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 4

Temple of Geek: Laura, we see a more emotionally mature Vex. She’s gotten past a lot of the jealousy and things like that. How does that impact not only her relationships with Keyleth, Percy, and Vax, but also her fears surrounding Vax and his relationship with The Matron?

Laura Bailey:

Oh my gosh, I think, yeah, this version of her we get to see at the beginning is this vulnerable Vex because she finally feels comfortable. She finally feels secure, and she feels loved, and she doesn’t feel like it’s all going to get ripped away at any minute. And then she finds out it can all get ripped away at any minute.

The growth that we get to see with her relationship, especially with Keyleth, I feel because it’s always been this kind of bickery, jealousy issue in the past. And she finally can say, “You’re family, you’re my sister, and we’re gonna get through this.” That’s kind of beautiful, and I’m glad we got to see it, because we did get those moments at the table, and I’m glad we’re getting to see that in the series as well.

It seems like Vex has finally found a place, emotionally, where she feels safe and secure. She and Percy are together and happy. Vax is happy with Keyleth. And the realm is safe. However, that safety proves to be temporary. This emotional growth and security could prove to be key to her ability to trust and work with Vox Machina against this new threat.

The relationship between Keyleth and Vex has always been rocky, with their insecurities often bumping against each other. As Keyleth has stepped into and accepted her power and Vex has found happiness and security, it seems their dynamic will evolve as well. Knowing this relationship will be featured in season four is especially exciting as they accept one another as family.

“All Of This Is Really Unfortunate When Your Paranoia Proves To Be True”

Temple of Geek: Taliesin, we see Percy finally happy, hopeful, and more open. How does this mindset impact how he handles a new threat, and potentially how that could affect not only his future and his family but his past as well?

Taliesin Jaffe:

Oh, I mean, at this point he does finally have something to lose, and he has a partner at this point, who is very forgiving, and he has a sister who is less forgiving. And all of this is really unfortunate when your paranoia proves to be true. That is his eternal curse.

Temple of Geek: Yeah, that intelligence gets him in trouble.

Taliesin Jaffe:

Yeah, you can’t think too much about the future or the terrible thing in the basement that’s a spinning death orb.

Percy’s paranoia often serves him well. While it can get him into trouble, especially with his friends, it is also how he has survived where many of those he loved haven’t. It seems that paranoia will once again prove true as the Whispered One becomes more dangerous.

Exploring Percy’s paranoia in the wake of his happiness will be intriguing. Will he fall back into old habits and push people away, or will having something to lose cause him to be more protective? “The Legend of Vox Machina” season four will offer fans a taste of a happily ever after for Percy and Vex, but the adventure never truly ends for these intrepid heroes.

“The Legend of Vox Machina” returns for its fourth season on June 3 on Prime Video. The first three seasons are available to watch on Prime Video now.
